The Houston Dash announced the acquisition of the rights to defender Courtney Petersen from the Orlando Pride. Houston will also receive Orlando’s third round pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft. The Dash are sending $65,000 in Allocation Money plus a conditional $25,000 if performance incentives are met.

Petersen made 30 starts in 41 appearances in two seasons with Orlando. The 25-year-old plays left back and is known to be an attacking player who gets forward in the offense. She had two assists for Orlando in 2022. Petersen started 21 of 22 games for the Pride in 2021 and scored a goal to go along with four assists.

Before her professional career, Petersen played collegiately at the University of Virginia, making 78 appearances. As a senior she was named All-Region First Team by United Soccer Coaches and All-ACC Second Team. Petersen has played internationally for the United States youth teams, including participating in the 2016 U-20 Women’s World Cup.
