Dash acquire Switzerland international Ramona Bachmann
The Houston Dash have announced the signing of Switzerland international Ramona Bachmann from Paris Saint-Germain for an undiclosed fee. Bachmann, 33, joins the Dash through the 2026 season.
"The accolades Ramona has won speak for themselves and we are thrilled to add a veteran that has not only competed at the highest level, but won major trophies along the way,” Dash General Manager Alex Singer said. “She adds a new dimension to how we approach our offense and capitalize on the opportunities we create in the final third. We look forward to watching her impact both on and off the field.”
Bachmann spent the last three seasons at PSG where she won the league title in the 2020-2021 season and the Coupe de France in the 2021-2022 season. The Swiss striker played for Chelsea in England before that and won the Super League in 2017-2018 and 2019-2020. She also won the FA Cup, scoring twice to beat Arsenal in the 2018 final. Bachmann also won the DFB Pokal with Wolfsburg in 2015-16. She also spent time with Luzern in Switzerland, Umea in Sweden, and one year with the Atlanta Beat in the WPS in 2010.
“I am very excited to join this incredible team and community,” Bachmann said. “I can't wait to give my all on the field and contribute to a successful journey this season. Let's make unforgettable memories together.”
Bachmann has scored 58 goals in 142 appearances for Switzerland since making her debut in 2007. She led Switzerland to their first World Cup in 2015. She played in the 2023 World Cup where she scored and led Switzerland to Round of 16. She has been named Swiss female Player of the Year in 2009 and 2015.
Playing as a left wing or striker, Bachmann joins a Dash team with a number of players in that role. It will be interesting to see how Fran Alonso uses Bachmann in his 3-4-3 system. Maria Sanchez could move back to the right and allow Bachmann to play on the left in place of Avery Patterson. We could also see Bachmann play up front along with Diana Ordonez, Cece Kizer, or Andressa.
