HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH SAM LAITY
Overall thoughts on the match:
"Proud of the performance from the team. A game of two halves, the weather conditions were a big struggle for both teams. We scored in the first half against the wind, we had another really good chance for us to go up 2-0. First thing that comes to mind is how proud I am of the team. We knew that it was going to be like that. Coming here needed to be an industrial performance in tough conditions. I said to the team before the game that I didn't think we were going to come here thinking this was going to be a pretty game. It was going to be as tactical as it was against Louisville. Proud of the effort and happy for the team walking away with three points because the players deserve that."
On getting first win as a head coach:
"I'm happy, but it's not about me. I'm happy for the players, the staff and the club because I see how they work everyday and what they've done before this game to put themselves in this position. For me, it doesn't really make a big difference if it’s my first win or my 50th win. Today was all about the team and I'm happy for them that their effort was rewarded with three points. I'm happy. Am I going to be bouncing off the walls later? Definitely not. We will put this win in the right column, we will dissect it, look at it and at things that we can do a lot better and we'll push on from here"
HOUSTON DASH FORWARD DIANA ORDÓÑEZ
On scoring her first goal for the Dash:
"Super grateful. I got a good opportunity on that penalty kick. Thankful that the team and the coaches believe in me to step up in that moment. It was good to put it away and get the win."
On the gameplan:
"We focused a decent amount on the conditions, that is an important thing. It was wise of the coaches to make sure that we knew what this game was going to be like. Especially in the warm up when we came out. We knew we were going to start against the wind and any long balls just weren't going to work for us today. I think's that's why we struggled a bit in the first half and had a lot of balls come right back at us. On day's like today, if you really knew what it was like out there, you just have to play to the weather and play to the conditions. You can't just impose your style the whole time. It was smart on the coaching staff and the team to play to what our circumstances were and I think we ended up utilizing it well."
HOUSTON DASH FORWARD MARIA SANCHEZ
On her first start this season:
"It was good. It was a tough one for sure with the wind and the weather. I was just happy we were able to come together and get the win."
On breaking down the game:
“The first half, we were able to create some chances but they were more in transition. The second half we worked a little more on building up together and being able to create opportunities through a build out. Going off of last week we felt we created some opportunities and we weren't able to score a goal. This game it was very fulfilling to get on the board and score two goals."
