The Houston Dash have announced that they have re-signed Maria Sanchez to a new contract through the 2026 season, with a mutual option for 2027. The Mexican international was a restricted free agent this offseason, meaning Houston could have matched any offer she received from a NWSL team. This new contract locks up another key player for the Dash heading into 2024.

Sanchez joined the Dash before the 2022 season after playing two years in Mexico. The Idaho native has made 46 appearances for the Dash in her career. She was one of three Houston players to play in every regular season match in 2023, playing over 1,700 minutes.

"Houston, I am so excited to be coming back. I am so privileged to represent such an amazing city and group of fans,” Sanchez said. “Words can’t describe the gratitude I have for the endless support I have received while representing the Dash. I can’t wait to get back to work and reach new levels of success for the club.”

Sanchez scored a team-high four goals this season in all competitions and added six assists. She played in a number of roles, as a winger, wing back, and even a full back at times.

“We are excited to share the signing of Maria Sanchez, a pivotal player and person on-and-off the pitch. Maria is a difference maker who embodies our club’s ambition. Her world-class left foot and attacking abilities, her desire to be a champion in Houston, and authentic connection to our community are what makes her a leader,” Dash general manager, Alex Singer said. “Securing Maria’s long-term future was a priority as we know she will play an important role for the Dash for years to come. Signing Maria to this robust, new deal signifies our commitment to investing talent on the pitch and infrastructure to ensure their success."
