HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH SAM LAITY

On getting chances:

“I would rather create one chance and score one goal than create 12 chances and score zero. Being a bit more ruthless and recognizing that there's a moment in every game that's a difference between winning and losing. We were making the wrong selection, or the quality wasn’t there. Hopefully in two or three more weeks the quality will be there.”

On forwards Ebony Salmon and Diana Ordóñez’s partnership up front:

“I think their relationship will evolve. Obviously, you’ve got a different type of profile when you’ve got Ryan Gareis or María Sánchez running in two different profiles. Then you've got (Diana) Ordóñez who is a box number nine in our opinion. Ebony is a different type of player. She’s more of a transitional player; I thought that we could have made some better decisions in that area. It’s going to be evolving. We might not see the best of any of these partnerships for seven, or eight, or nine games.”

HOUSTON DASH MIDFIELDER SOPHIE SCHMIDT

On her first game as captain:

"A lot of excitement. I'm also very proud to represent this group of players, this team, this organization. We're moving in an exciting direction forward. And I think that we're capable of doing something special this year to build off last year. I'm just proud to lead the charge on that."

On what the fans can expect this season:

“Thank you to all the fans that came out tonight. Moving forward, I think that they're going to see an exciting brand of soccer. We saw glimpses of it today. Very transitional. That's where we are the most dangerous, on counterattack. We have the ability to score goals and score lots of them. Unfortunately, not tonight but I think that's something that the fans can look forward to. A heartfelt performance and also an exciting game.”
