HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH SAM LAITY

On the game:

"Well, definitely wasn't expecting that. I think we had our best week of training in a long, long time. Yesterday's matchday minus one was the best one best we've ever had. We looked very sharp, looked technical, and looked fluid. Not actually as disappointed as you'd think, respective of the players they've got in the field. You can't give opportunities, like we did for the first goal to San Diego, and expect to get decent results in this league. Probably more disappointed with our execution of what the game plan was. The spaces were there that we that we expected. We had 13 entries in the attacking third in the first half. One of the things we talked about at halftime was getting more players into box to be golden and we didn't do that. We got exactly what we deserved, we gave away a very cheap goal, which is unlike us. We scored the second goal, I haven't seen enough, Natalie [Jacobs] thinks that she was fouled. The second goal of the second phase with Natalie down injured kept the play on site. We can still do better with the second ball. I should have missed the third goal, because we were trying to sort and substitute in that. We played San Diego in preseason and played very well against them. They probably brought some of that with to this game, we didn't execute. We didn't win the first balls and second balls. We didn't win third balls and when we did, we like we get on the board and play but yeah, disappointed."

On San Diego’s first goal:

"Goals change games, and it's not just goals to change games, it's the nature of the goal. It was soft, it was so soft. It's a ball that just needs to be cleared up on the field. We overplay against the player that's dynamic that and we know is going to run behind and is going to press. It's a situation that we gave up. I mean, even throughout the first half, I don't think of any situations even up until the second goal. I can't think of any situations where they looked dangerous. We gave them the first two goals for sure, after that, we lost the heads a little bit. That will be a big learning moment for this team. I'd say that I'm not overly disappointed, because we had a very strong week of training. That will put us in good stead moving forward as long as we can correct some of the mistakes we made today. We can't put a statement performance such as Portland last week and then come in and put a performance like today. A lot of reflecting to be done."

On the upcoming Kansas City match:

"As of right now it can't come soon enough. I'd like to play the game tomorrow. I would like to play the
game tomorrow."

HOUSTON DASH MIDFIELDER SOPHIE SCHMIDT

On the early San Diego goal:

“It was a bit unfortunate that it was that early but because it was that early, you’re in the mindset of
nothing really changes and you still have to go out and play however many minutes and play the game. I
thought we did a really good job of not letting it affect us immediately.”

On changes made in the second half:

“First half, I was actually quite happy with how we played. I thought we were quite dangerous and on the
offensive bits, just that final goal was missing for us at the moment. We did a good job of shutting them
down and limiting their chances, but we just need to find a way to find the back of the net. We created
enough to do that.”

On positives heading into Kansas City:

“Definitely think that positives are the number of chances we had in that first half and looking at how
that happened, why that happened and looking into how we can increase the chances of scoring a goal.
Not letting it get us down was key and shaking it off... it’s a long season. It’s not who we are so we can’t
let it define us.”
