Diana Ordóñez signs new three-year contract with Dash
Houston dash forward Diana Ordóñez has signed a new three-year deal through the 2025 season. The Texas native was acquired via a trade with the North Carolina Courage on January 12. Houston sent $100,000 in allocation money, a 2024 first round pick, and an international roster spot in 2023 to acquire the Mexican international.
"Diana is a key piece in our style of play and adds another dimension to our attack,” Dash general manager, Alex Singer said. “She has all the tools to be one of the best strikers in the world and is dedicated to honing her craft. We’ve been impressed with her desire to improve, commitment to the club, and we look forward to building with her. The organization is thrilled she’s here long term.”
Ordóñez was the 6th overall pick by North Carolina in the 2022 NWSL Draft and made 17 starts and 19 appearances in her rookie season. She set the record for goals scored in a rookie season, finding the back of the net 11 times. Her goal tally also was the fourth most in the league.
“I’m feeling so blessed and excited to make this commitment to the club and the city,” Ordóñez said. “I can’t wait to build on the incredible year the team had last year and get to do so with some of the best coaches, teammates and support staff in the league.”
Ordóñez grew up in Prosper, Texas and played collegiately at the University of Virginia. She represents Mexico at the international level and made her debut for El Tri on April 9, 2022.
