Houston Dash 2024 draft prospects
Tonight is the 2024 NWSL Draft, with coverage beginning at 7 PM on ION. This is always a good time for teams to add new faces and new prospects for the future. The Houston Dash currently has four picks in the draft: Round 2, Pick 19; Round 3, Pick 36; Round 3, Pick 40; and Round 4, Pick 47.
With many departures in the offseason in the midfield and defense, it seems fitting that the Dash will look for players at those positions. Here are five prospects that the Dash could get.
1. Maycee Bell (Defender, UNC)
Bell is a first-round prospect that comes with good accolades from her college career. In her fifth season at UNC, she scored two goals and had two assists as a center back. She has a commanding voice on the backline and was a leader for the Tar Heels defense. Ball helped anchor the backline that advanced to the College Cup quarterfinals.
2. Savannah King (Defender, UNC)
King registered late for the draft, but she is a player that many teams will look at. She just finished her freshman year but has proven to be one of the players in the pool with the highest ceiling. After losing Caprice Dydasco in free agency, King could be the perfect replacement for her on the Dash roster.
3. Zoe Burns (M/D, USC)
Burns is a versatile player that covers a lot of space between the midfield and the defense. She is a typical right wingback that gets forward in the attack, tallying six assists in her last season and helping lead the defense. She has two caps with the Canadian national team and received a silver medal at the CONCACAF W Championship. She is no doubt a player with some experience that could contribute in the NWSL right away.
4. Olivia Wade-Katoa (M/F, BYU)
Breaking out in her fifth year at BYU with 13 goals and 8 assists, Wade-Katoa could be a great addition for any team looking for attacking depth. She is a player that has a drive in the attacking third that seems to be key in the final minutes of the game. With a high intensity work rate and an offensive mind, Wade-Katoa could be a spark to the Dash when they lack goals late in games.
5. Brecken Mozingo (M/F, BYU)
This pick seems like a long shot, as Mozingo could be taken at the top of the draft, with her local club Utah Royals holding the first pick. Mozingo is coming off a remarkable season in 2023 where she scored 14 goals and added 15 assists. Transitioning from attacking midfield to forward, she had 73 goal contributions in 93 appearances at BYU. Mozingo is such a threat in front of goal and flexible in the attacking third. She will be on the radars of every team, but only one may have a chance at picking her.
This is just a few of players to look for, but of course, anything can happen in the draft. Stay tuned at 7PM on ION Television. To find ION in your area or streaming platform, check out this link.
