Houston Dash and Amanda West agree to new contract
The Houston Dash and Amanda West have agreed to a new contract that will keep the forward in Houston through the 2026 season with a mutual option for 2027. West just finished her rookie season with the Dash after being drafted with the 36th overall pick in January’s NWSL Draft.
West’s rookie season was derailed when she was placed on the 45-day injury list with a knee injury in the summer. She did return in October to make 2 more appearances off the bench. West scored one goal this season, a late equalizer in May against Kansas City Current. She also added one assist.
“Amanda made key contributions to the team in her first year with the club and we are thrilled that she will continue her development in Houston,” interim general manager, Erik Ustruck said. “She was a constant threat in the attacking third and brings a fantastic work ethic to the group. Combined with her resilience and ambitions we believe Amanda will be a key contributor who will help the team reach sustained success.”
West scored 50 goals and tallied 31 assists in her collegiate career at the University of Pittsburgh. The Canadian left the program as the leader in points, points per game, and game-winning goals. West will turn 24 in February and gives the Dash another young offensive option off the bench.
"I'm excited for the future of the Houston Dash and believe this group can accomplish big things,” West said. “I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of it all and I can't wait to get back to work with my teammates after the holidays."
West played as a wing, striker, and even wing back in the Dash’s system in 2024. The new head coach will need to find a position for West to help her excel. With just Diana Ordonez locked in as striker and veteran options like Yuki Nagasato and Ramona Bachmann, it seems West’s pathway to playing time on this team is up front.
