The Houston Dash have announced the signing of Austrian national team captain Sarah Puntigam. The midfielder has signed through the 2023 season with an option for 2024.

The 30-year-old joins Houston from German club FC Koln. Puntigam has also played for Bayern Munich, SC Kriens, SC Freiburg, and Montpellier. “I’m very excited to here. I’ve always wanted to play for the NWSL and can’t wait to start and get to know the league. I hope I can help the team and have an impact. The Dash are building something big and I’m happy to be part of it,” said Puntigam.

Puntigam is Austria’s most capped player with 100 appearances. She joins a Dash midfield that has been hampered by injuries and international appearances. She can also play as a center back. “Sarah is a steady force on the pitch. She is a class player and person, so were pleased to have the opportunity to bring her in as we add more quality, experience, and leadership to our roster. We’re excited to welcome her to Houston and see what she can accomplish with our talented group,” said Houston Dash General Manager Alex Singer.

Here are Puntigam’s scouting reports compared to other players in the Bundesliga, as a midfielder and center back.
