The Houston Dash have transfered forward Ebony Salmon to Aston Villa in England for an undisclosed fee. Salmon, who began her career with Villa in their academy, returns to her native England after scoring 11 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions for Houston.

"I’ve really enjoyed my time in Houston, a city and a club that gave me an opportunity to do what I enjoy most,” Salmon said. “To everyone involved with the club, thank you for making me feel so welcome from the beginning and for the continued support throughout my time here. I wish the Dash the best of luck in the future.”

Salmon joined the Dash on June 27, 2022 in a trade from Racing Louisville. Houston sent a club record amount of cash in the deal to bring Salmon to the Dash. She got off to a flying start, winning player of the month honors after she joined the club. Salmon has been in and out of the lineup this season, sometimes playing on the wing alongside Diana Ordonez. Salmon was did not make the trip to San Diego for last weekend’s match. Head coach at the time Sam Laity said about Salmon’s absence that she was unavailable to travel.

"We wish Ebony the best as she returns home closer to family and pursues a new opportunity,” Dash general manager, Alex Singer said. “Since her arrival, Ebony played a key role for the team and was influential in us earning our first playoff appearance. As a club, we wanted to make every effort to support her in this step of her journey.”

Salmon will join fellow Englishwoman and former Dash striker Rachel Daly at Aston Villa. Daly won the WSL Golden Boot and Player of the Year last season and was named to the Ballon d’Or shortlist.
