HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH FRAN ALONSO

On the match:

"A game of two halves with four hours between each half. Very difficult for the players to approach. I have to say, I'm extremely proud of our players. The way they came out in the second half and wanted to win the game. We showed this ambition, we scored a goal. The opponent dropped two points before today and they averaged almost three goals per game. This is a very important point for us. Another step in the right direction and building on our performance against Utah last week."

On Amanda West’s goal:

"It's a proud moment for her, for her family, but also for us. She had some good performances this year. Like every young player, she will encounter the highs and lows of a season. For her to start today and to score, I'm very happy and her teammates are as well."

On adapting to the NWSL:

“Every week is a different challenge. You face some of the best players in the world every week. For example, today Temwa Chawinga. I don't know if there is a player that can match her pace, it is just absolutely incredible. Every single week is a very big challenge, but we are growing. We have a crystal-clear plan about where we want to be in the future and it starts with constant development. We showed that as a team today. I think we are more solid defensively and our attacking as well. At times it is a little more fluid with combinations, one-touch, the passing. The more the players understand and learn from each other the more we will see that growth."

HOUSTON DASH FORWARD AMANDA WEST

On scoring her first professional goal:

“Right when it went in, it was just elation. That was my first professional goal, so that's going to be one that I'll remember forever. It was a special moment, not only for myself, but to share it with my teammates. We have a really good group here. We work so hard for each other every day. That was a moment for the whole team. As well for Fran (Alonso), he gets so excited about our goals. He's very energetic. It was awesome to share that moment with the girls and the coaches.”

On her takeaway from the draw:

“For us, we keep saying after every game that we want to keep taking steps in the right direction. It's no secret, there's a lot happening with our team right now. A new system, new coach and players, but we're trying every week to continue to implement what we do daily at practice. It's very promising that we had this kind of result against a team like Kansas City. Coming off the game in Utah, we got the point, but we didn't get the result that we wanted. Three points is ideal, but like I said, getting a result against Kansas City is like another step in the right direction and gives the team some confidence moving forward.”
