HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH FRAN ALONSO
On the match:
"It was difficult to prepare, we knew they were going to make a lot of changes and we needed to prepare for plan A and plan B. Overall, it was a very even game, no big chances for either team, and you know we knew the longer the game went on we knew we would become stronger. The last maybe 10-15 minutes, we were pushing to score the winner, we had a few set plays to try and punish them but failed to do so. Overall, a fair result, but probably another week where we are disappointed because we didn't get the three points.”
On the upcoming stretch of road games:
“It's very important to try and win the next game. We knew if we won today, we could jump up the table and be where we want to be in terms of points. We just got one more point, so we will try our best to get the three points next week. We know we are facing a team that is in great form, they are in very, very good goal-scoring form and it's going to be difficult to stop them.”
On adjustments needed and the energy of the team:
“Yeah, I felt that the opponent was breaking our pressing too often. We tried to keep them in certain areas and at times we did well and at times we had to run a lot. At times it looked like players were lacking energy at some points during the game. I felt the changes helped us to bring more energy and I thought that our game plan was going to be better. So yeah, just a shame that we couldn't score and get the three points.”
HOUSTON DASH DEFENDER AVERY PATTERSON
On the match:
“It's not the result we wanted. Obviously, home wins are sweeter than away wins, but I mean we did walk away with a point. That's a positive that we can always take away. We're still climbing the table without a loss at home. So, we're happy with the point.”
On facing Maria Sanchez and other star attackers in the NWSL:
“I don't think many people in the world are lucky enough to play against such talented opposition or opponents. Before every game I take a second to myself and recognize how grateful I am to be in the position that I am in, and how lucky I am that Fran (Alonso) gives me opportunity after opportunity to go toe-to-toe with those players. I'm learning every game and I'm thankful for it.”
On replicating the intensity shown in the final stretch of the game:
“It's about coming out quicker. There's a saying, not coming out flat-footed, right? Having the crowd on their feet and as they get loud, those posters being held up for 90 minutes. The intensity just for 90 minutes would obviously replicate everything.”
On kicking it long vs maintaining possession:
“It's just the style of soccer that we're trying to play. It’s more technical, more tactical, keeping the ball, possessing, playing around the team and making them run for 90 minutes. To stretch a team, you have to boot it long a couple times, but it's those final third balls we were missing tonight. Credit to our team for trying to play the style that we want to play. That's pretty soccer that everyone enjoys watching.”
