HOUSTON DASH ASSISTANT COACH RICKY CLARKE
On the match:
“It was a really good game for the crowd, a very entertaining game. Credit to Tigres, who came here and made it incredibly difficult for us. They defended in a way that was different from what we thought they would do. After our goal, around 10 or 15 minutes into the game it made it difficult for us. We’ve had a challenging week and the team kept working. It’s a team performance, but sometimes individuals have to step up and score goals or create moments – or saves or blocked shots, and you saw that tonight. Out of possession, we worked incredibly hard. We won the field tilt in the second half. We worked all week on the no. 10 running in behind the fullback and the centerback, and Barb (Olivieri) had a great finish. I’m very proud of the team.”
On the stadium atmosphere:
“I felt it. That's why I turned around and spoke to the crowd. That’s something I love about Mexican football culture. As the game went on, I spoke to the team about being from Houston and understanding how to play in the heat and win games in this stadium. So, when I heard the crowd chanting our name, I wanted to join in. The fans were fantastic on both sides tonight.”
On Heather Hinz’s performance:
“Heather (Hinz) was brilliant tonight. I give credit to our goalkeeping coach, Eric (Klenofsky). He’s fantastic at providing the players with feedback and details going into games. We knew that whoever was playing tonight was going to be fully prepared. If you get a moment to step into the starting lineup, it's all about executing. Both (Heather Hinz and Erin McKinney) have done great for us. They’re both very good goalkeepers, so we’re very fortunate. And we have the best goalkeeper in the world (Jane Campbell), and she's not here. So, on that side we’re incredibly lucky.”
On the difference between the first and second halves:
“They played slightly differently when we were building up. We gave the ball away and took too many risks. The game started opening up and became too transitional. We focused on taking care of the ball and keeping our shape. As the game went on, they started building more pressure and serving more balls from wide areas to put Heather (Hinz) under pressure. And the pressure broke on their goal, they were fortunate with the deflection. In the second half, we spoke about being brave and getting higher up the field. One of the things I love about working with this team is those details, making it difficult for the other team. We didn’t play centrally in the second half; we knew there was going to be more space out wide.”
HOUSTON DASH DEFENDER NATALIE JACOBS
On the victory:
“I'm super happy, super excited and super proud of the group. That was one we had to fight for. Tigres is a great team. You could see that throughout the whole game, but super proud of the team. Especially after everything that we have gone through as a team. To get the win means a lot to us.”
On if this was a monumental win:
“Yeah, for sure. Before the game I told the team let’s use this game to turn the season around. It felt like this could be a big game for us, especially at this point in the season. So, to get that win really does mean a lot."
On being the captain for these matches:
“I'm honored every chance I get to be the captain. As Ricky (Clarke) says, everybody on this team is a leader in some way. So, we've all kind of lead each other. It just means a lot because this group is special.”
On the play of the rookies:
“The rookies have been amazing. I mean, you saw Heather (Hinz) tonight making incredible saves. Last week, Erin (McKinney) did a phenomenal job as well. All of them play and are just special players. They work extremely hard and we're happy to have them all.”
HOUSTON DASH FORWARD BARBARA OLIVIERI
On the match:
“Super excited. It was nice to finally win at home, and we had a good crowd tonight and mostly not our fans, so that was nice to quiet them up. It was really nice and just exciting to score that goal for the win.”
On her goal:
"It came off a punt from the goalie and a great ball from Andressa. I just kind of looked over my shoulder, saw that no one was there and then got a little chip over the goalkeeper.”
