2024 MLS schedule released: 5 Dynamo games to circle on your calendar

The Houston Dynamo will look to build off a very successful 2023 season as the calendar flips to 2024. We now know what the new season will look like as MLS released the full 2024 schedule today. The Dynamo will open the year on February 25 at Shell Energy Stadium against the team they played in their last home game of 2023, Sporting Kansas City. Houston will begin the season with Concacaf Champions League games on February 20 and 27. The league schedule will pause from July 26 to August 25 as all Major League Soccer and LigaMX teams will once again compete in the Leagues Cup.

The full 2024 schedule for the Dynamo is below:

The league will enter the second year of their deal with Apple TV meaning games will again be played, for the most part, on set dates and times, as you can see by looking at the full schedule.

The Texas Derby games are always games to look forward to. Since there are a number of them now, I’m not including them in my five games below but here are the derby games in 2024:

  • Saturday, April 20 vs Austin FC

  • Saturday, April 27 at FC Dallas

  • Wednesday, May 15 at Austin FC

  • Saturday, May 18 vs FC Dallas

  • Saturday, September 21 at Austin FC

With the full schedule now out, what are 5 games to look forward to in 2024? (Sorry, there is no games against Miami scheduled.) Let’s take a look.

Saturday, February 24 vs Sporting Kansas City

The Dynamo ended Sporting Kansas City’s 2023 season at Shell Energy Stadium and the teams will run it back to begin 2024. Both teams will be looking to start the season on the right foot after finishing the 2023 campaign strong. Ben Olsen and SKC head coach Peter Vermes have a real respect for each other and it’s always fun seeing them match wits.

Saturday, June 15 at Atlanta United

Roughly halfway through the season, the Dynamo will get a tough test on the road at Atlanta. Mercedes Benz Stadium is a tough place to play, usually filling to capacity. This should be a good gauge for what the 2024 Dynamo will be as they head toward the summer months.

Saturday, June 22 at D.C. United

Ben Olsen returns to take on the team he played for and coached. D.C. is in a bit of a rebuild now with Wayne Rooney returning home to England and no new head coach hired yet. This could be a chance for United fans to see what they’re missing as Olsen returns with his shiny, new, successful toy.

Sunday, July 7 vs LAFC

After beating LAFC twice in the regular season, the Dynamo couldn’t get the job done against them in the Western Conference Final. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since that match. The last time LAFC came to Shell Energy Stadium they were thumped 4-0. With Giorgio Chiellini retiring and Carlos Vela out of contract it could be a new look Black and Gold visiting Houston in 2024.

Saturday, October 19 vs LA Galaxy

Do the Dynamo host the LA Galaxy in the final match every season? It may just seem like it, but it will happen again in 2024. Hopefully, the Dynamo have long had a playoff spot clinched by this match but important seeding could be on the line, like we saw in Portland this season on Decision Day.

Which games are you most excited to see? Let us know in the comments.
