Houston Dynamo 2’s great run of form and winless streak came to an end last week at the hands of Portland Timbers 2. In this week’s 2sday we’re looking back at last Thursday’s match.

Dynamo 2 would try to go up first in the 12th minute of play. Jacob Evans made a quick run down the the line into the 18 yard box and was able to get a low cross in. Timbers goalkeeper Ryan Bilichuk was able to get to the ball first before Papa Ndoye could get to it and get a shot off.

The first goal on the evening wouldn’t come long after that first try from the Dynamo. In the 23rd minute, as Yair Gonzalez attacked inside the box he was fouled by Timbers defender Blake Pope. Gonzalez would turn that into the first goal of the game, scoring from the penalty spot. Unfortunately for Houston, it would be the lone goal for the Dynamo.

A few minutes later, right before the end of the half, the Timbers would strike back. Mujeeb Murana misjudged a loose ball in the middle of the field and Portland strike Tega Ikoba would beat the defender on the run. When encountered by the goal keeper, without any nerves, Portland’s big number 17 would place the ball in at the left post to level things up for the visitors.

Both team would go into halftime without a lot of damage done to each other. Houston would come out of that halftime looking to get ahead early on in the seance half.

A few minutes in, in the 51st minute, a cross would come in by Isaiah LeFlore and Evans would be get a touch on it to drop it off for Diego Gonzalez. The team’s top goal scorer would take a shot but Bilichuk would get his hands on it to keep it out. Houston was knocking on the door for a second goal.

Five minutes later, Juan Castilla would get a shot off from right outside the 18, as Diego Gonzalez would drop it off after a pass from Charles Auguste. Dynamo Does looked to capitalize with these chances but the Timbers keeper would deny the home team once more.

In the 59th minute, Diego Gonzalez would try his own luck with a shot outside the 18, but the goalkeeper would send it out for a corner kick.

Just as the Dynamo seemed to get a bit closer to get the second goal of the match for them, a penalty kick would be called against them. A foul in the box gave Florian Monzon the chance to convert from 12 steps, and in the 70th minute he wouldn’t waste the opportunity. The visitors would take a 2-1 lead.

The rest of the match would go on much of the same, as the Dynamo kept attacking the Timbers goal but with their goalkeeper growing in confidence as the shots kept coming his way. Bilichuk would finish the game with 6 saves, from the 22 shots Houston took.

The game would come to an end and the Timbers would fly back to Portland with all the 3 points. Dynamo 2 head coach Kenny Bundy said say “it was a game of moments” and unfortunately his team was unable to put away their chances and Portland did with theirs.

The next match for Dynamo 2 will be this upcoming Sunday, June 25th at SaberCats Stadium. They will be hosting the San Jose Earthquakes with kickoff set for 6 PM.

Until next week, and like always.
