Dynamo exercise purchase option on forward Nelson Quiñónes
The Houston Dynamo announced today that they have exercised the purchase option on forward Nelson Quiñónes. The Colombian was signed to a year-long loan last July from Colombian club Once Caldas S.A. Quiñónes now joins as a permanent player for Houston and has signed a contract through the 2025 season with a club option for 2026.
Quiñónes is the fifth player to join the Dynamo for a seven-figure transfer fee since Ted Segal bought the club in June of 2021. He joins Teenage Hadebe, Sebas Ferreira, Coco Carrasquilla, and Aliyu Ibrahim in this category. Quiñónes will occupy a U-22 initiative slot on the roster.
“We are excited to find a solution that allows Nelson to remain in Houston and continue contributing to the club’s resurgence this season,” said Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad. “We are grateful to our ownership for continuing to provide resources to attract and retain young talents who improve our team and possess the potential to play at the highest levels in the game. Credit to our coaching staff for guiding his development at the club and credit to Nelson for embracing this opportunity to advance his career and contribute to the Dynamo moving forward. He has made great strides over the summer and we look forward to seeing what his ceiling will be as a player.”
The Colombian winger made his debut for the club in August of last year and appeared in eight matches. This season he has played in 20 matches, scoring his first MLS goal in the 4-0 win over LAFC.
