The Houston Dynamo have announced the transer for forward Thorleifur Ulfarsson to Debreceni VSC in the Hungarian league. Houston will keep a percentage of a future sell on as part of the transaction.

Ulfarsson joined the Dynamo after signing a Generation adidas contract and being selected 4th overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft. The Iceland native made 49 appearances for the Dynamo and 12 starts in the regular season. He made three postseason appearances in the run to the Western Conference final this past season. He finishes his career in Houston with 7 goals and 2 assists in 1,655 regular season minutes. Thor scored the only goal in the Dynamo’s 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup as the club would later go on to lift the trophy.

“We would like to sincerely thank Thor for his dedication and contributions to the Houston Dynamo organization over the past two seasons,” said General Manager Pat Onstad. “He is a talented young player whose development will benefit by earning more minutes at a club like Debreceni. We wish Thor the best in the next chapter of his career.”

Debreceni VSC competes in the top tier of the Hungarian league. They have won the league seven times since 2000 and currently sit 5th in the table.

An already thin striker position now becomes even thinner for the Dynamo. Designated Player Sebastian Ferreira is back from loan and looks to feature in the club’s plans this year. He joins Aliyu Ibrahim, who signed with Houston last summer, and Stephen Gyami, who the Dynamo selected in the first round of this year’s MLS SuperDraft.
