Ethan Bartlow had a steady and dependable 2024 season with the Houston Dynamo. While he primarily served as a backup to starting center-backs Erik Sviatchenko and Micael, Bartlow made notable contributions when called upon, most notably in the first half of the season. His passing range improved, allowing him to play a role in advancing the ball effectively, and he demonstrated solid defensive instincts. He was particularly effective in high-pressure moments, including key goal-line clearances that saved critical points for the team.

Moment of the season

Bartlow’s standout moment of the season came during the Dynamo’s away victory against Minnesota. Starting alongside Erik Sviatchenko in central defense, Bartlow stepped up after Sviatchenko was replaced by Micael due to injury. Minnesota launched relentless attacks throughout the match, aiming to capitalize on any defensive lapses. One critical moment arose from a defensive miscue, leading to a clear scoring chance for the Loons. Goalkeeper Steve Clark managed to get a touch on the shot, but it seemed destined for the back of the net. Bartlow, refusing to give up on the play, executed a brilliant goal-line clearance, preserving the Dynamo’s lead and securing a crucial victory.

Looking forward

Despite limited minutes, his reliability and tactical awareness made him a valuable rotational player, and the Dynamo extended his contract through 2025, with an option for 2026, signaling their confidence in his potential to grow further. Unfortunately for Ethan, it is likely he will see a similar role next season as both starters, Erik Sviatchenko and Micael, are back in 2025.
