Houston Dynamo player ratings at Colorado Rapids
It was a long and boring game, but the Dynamo managed to leave Denver with a good road point. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.
Starters
Steve Clark-7
Steve played a solid game, making three saves and kept a clean sheet. The saves were nothing crazy, but you can never take for granted when your goalkeeper does the easy stuff and earns a shutout.
Franco Escobar-7
The usual Franco Escobar where he gets up and down the field effectively all game long. The offense was effective but lacked that extra bit of quality we are used to with Escobar. Defensively, he struggled early in the game, but was terrific after the opening 25 minutes.
Erik Sviatchenko-8
Erik was very effective defensively in this game, making some great blocks. He was very adventurous with his passing out of the back, completing five progressive passes. A clean sheet and excellent distribution, exactly the type of performance we expect from Sviatchenko.
Micael-9
Micael had to put out a lot of fires in this game, making three game saving tackles. He made one tackle in transition to stop a for sure goal, which earned the team this important point. Moments like that tackle are what you will remember if the Dynamo scrape into the playoffs.
Daniel Steres-7
Not a whole lot to discuss with Steres. The usual solid defensive display with a very limited offensive game for his position. Exactly what is expected of Steres, and this being an odd position for him, it’s very impressive how consistent he has been.
Artur-8
Artur looked like himself again, putting in a great midfield display on both sides of the ball. His passing was simple but effective. He played great defense and protected the backline all game long.
Luis Caicedo-8
Like Artur, Caicedo played great defense all game long and was a steady presence in the buildup. He completed an impressive 92% of his passes.
Hector Herrera-5
Not great compared to what we usually expect out of Hector Herrera. For once, he did not dominate the touches on the Dynamo and struggled to get much going in dangerous positions. Certainly, it was not a horrible performance, but not up to his usual standard.
Nelson Quinones-7
It took Nelson a bit of time to get going in this game, but when he did, he was the most dangerous attacker on the field for either team. His direct runs in behind created loads of danger for the Rapids defense. He created multiple strong scoring opportunities that were never put away.
Ivan Franco-3
Getting his first start in over a month, Ivan struggled to make any sort of positive impact on the field. He was getting bullied off the ball constantly and his vision was extremely poor. He worked hard like always, but it was never enough.
Aliyu Ibrahim-4
Aliyu worked hard as usual and attempted to be a threat on the counterattack to very little success. To be fair to him, the service was horrible for the half he was on the field. He was subbed off at half time due to a yellow card and Ben Olsen looking for a different profile up front.
Substitutes
Thor Ulfarsson-3
Thor was given the entire second half to make an impression on this game. He really did not do much of anything with only ten touches of the ball. He was a passenger defensively and could not get on the end of Nelson’s solid deliveries.
Corey Baird-4
Not a whole lot of time for Corey to impress. In his 20 minutes he barely saw the ball and was not effective any time he did get it. He wasn’t the spark the team needed in this game.
Ethan Bartlow-7
Bartlow came in when Steres was forced to exit, and he did a good job seeing out the game. He defended everything in front of him and helped the defense earn the shutout.
Head Coach
Ben Olsen-7
Ben set up the team to play on the counter and have a structured defense. The Dynamo looked the more dangerous team in a lot of moments despite having less of the ball. It was great to see him go back to a more defensive approach and a road point is always a good point at this stage.
