The Houston Dynamo have lifted the US Open Cup for the second time after a 2-1 victory against Inter Miami on Wednesday night. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.

Starters

Andrew Tarbell-7

Tarbell might as well have not even showed up for the first half of the game with Miami failing to register a single shot on target. He was nearly flawless with his feet playing out of the back. He could have and should have done much better with the goal conceded. One of his three saves was massive and overall, a solid day in net.

Franco Escobar-9

Franco was incredible and he dominated the entire left side of the field for 90 minutes. The amount of goal saving challenges he put in is too much to count. Going forward, he was also incredible with nearly perfect passing in support of the offense. He also did a great job keeping his composure after an early yellow card.

Micael-9

Near perfection from Micael at the back. His passing and tackling were nearly flawless and he did not let anyone past him for 90 minutes. His dominance in the air over an in-form striker like Leo Campana was massive to winning this game.

Erik Sviatchenko-9

Like Micael, he was nearly flawless in every aspect of the game. His passing was more adventurous then Micael and it was huge in creating chances down the field. He was able to keep up with Josef Martinez very well until stoppage time.

Griffin Dorsey-10

How good has Griffin Dorsey become? What a performance, as he was one of the most impactful players on the field on both sides of the ball. He took his goal extremely well and we can’t wait to see what more is to come from Dorsey.

Artur-9

Artur was immense, especially in the first half. He was huge in defense and controlling the midfield. His excellence took Sergio Busquets completely out of the game in the first half. His assist to Dorsey on the first goal was also incredibly worked.

Hector Herrera-9

What more is there to say about Herrera that hasn’t already been said? He is just a phenomenal player and captain and continues to lead this team better than anyone else. He was all over the field, dominating the touches and running nonstop on defense. A true captain’s performance.

Coco Carrasquilla-5

I could be much harsher on Coco as he messed up a lot of promising attacks. His ability to shoot and create in the box was extremely poor and disappointing. His midfield ability saved his night as the ball was a magnet to his feet in tight spaces. He was able to carry the ball forward and start so many great attacks. If only he could finish.

Amine Bassi-9

Resting Bassi the last two games as he recovered from his small injury proved to be the right decision as he was one of the biggest game changers in the final. He was constantly picking up his head and picking out the runs of Dorsey, Quinones, and Baird. His delivery was excellent and then on top of that, he put away yet another penalty, which was the game winning goal.

Nelson Quinones-10

Easily Nelson’s best performance for the Dynamo to date. He picked a great time to breakout like that, giving DeAndre Yedlin nightmares all night long. He completely dominated that left side going forward and tracking back. Yedlin was nearly useless in this game thanks to Nelson. Even Nelson now, who people said had no technical ability, can cut in and switch the play and be a huge part of the buildup. He also won the penalty for the winning goal using his rapid pace.

Corey Baird-7

Not his best performance in the box as he missed a few chances. His role in the buildup was great, especially for the first goal. His pressing ability was massive as usual and was big in the way the Dynamo dominated the play in the first half.

Substitutes

Brad Smith-6

Smith was the only substitute that played more than ten minutes. He was great at trying to relieve pressure when Miami was all over the Dynamo late in the game. He had two chances to make it 3-0 and failed to take them.

The other three substitutes came in very late and didn’t show enough to get individual ratings. All three played very well and played their roles in seeing the game out.

Head Coach

Ben Olsen-10

Ben Olsen continues to silence his doubters, as the Dynamo continue to play great soccer and have earned a trophy because of it. He is so adaptive, and it is giving opposing head coaches headaches preparing for these games. Miami was clearly thrown off with Ben’s approach in the first half and that was what decided the game. His team’s resilience and hard work saw the game out until the end and he should be so proud of how far they have come.
