Houston Dynamo player ratings at Minnesota United

The Dynamo disappointed once again on the road, this time losing 1-0 to Minnesota United. Let’s look at how everyone performed.

Starters

Steve Clark-9

Steve was once again the hero of the day, making four very impressive saves. Without Steve Clark the score could have been very one sided, but Clark kept the Dynamo in the game.

Franco Escobar-3

It was a very poor night for Escobar who looked extremely sloppy on both sides of the ball. He made an awful pass towards Micael that led to the winning goal for Minnesota. Franco made multiple mistakes in possession late in the game, that saw him subbed out for Griffin Dorsey.

Ethan Bartlow-7

Bartlow played a fairly solid game, not making any glaring defensive mistakes. He was terrific when defending deep, making seven clearances. He was very ambitious with his passing, trying to start many counter attacks, but they rarely came off with him only completing 33% of his long passes.

Micael-5

Micael had some shaky moments along with some strong moments in this game. While the goal is not entirely on him, he could have done better getting Escobar’s pass into a less dangerous area.

Daniel Steres-4

The cracks have started to show a little playing Steres out of position. Steres struggled to get involved much in the game, being a passenger going forward and not the greatest defensive night either. This poor performance had Ben Olsen substitute him at half time.

Artur-5

This was easily Artur’s weakest performance in a Dynamo shirt. He was a bit lost at times, making very little impact defensively. However, he was solid again in the passing department, creating a key chance for Aliyu that hit the woodwork.

Luis Caicedo-4

Like Artur, Caicedo failed to make much of an impact defensively in this game. His passing was also not incredible with him failing to progress the ball more often than not. It was a very safe game from Caicedo when the Dynamo needed more with Herrera out.

Coco Carrasquilla-6

Not great again from Coco, but it was not his worst night either. Coco was all over the field making great use of his high engine. He did great to try and add some life into the Dynamo offense, but nothing much came of it. He had one phenomenal pass to Brad Smith late on that was wasted.

Nelson Quinones-4

Like usual with Nelson, he shows himself to be all speed with little to no end product. He failed to complete any passes of note or move the ball into any goal scoring positions.

Corey Baird-2

For most of the half Baird played, you would forget he was even on the field. He made no impact on the game whatsoever and was pulled at half time by Ben Olsen.

Ibrahim Aliyu-6

In Aliyu’s first start he looked very promising, being the most active attacker on the team. Early in the game he made an incredible play in transition to create a chance for Coco. He was second on the team in shot creating actions with three and played a role in the defense with three tackles.

Substitutes

Brad Smith-3

Brad Smith came on at half time to try and add some more width on the left side that was missing with Escobar out there. He failed to make an impact and completed a shockingly low 61% of his passes. He had one great opportunity to pick someone out with a cross with no pressure on him but he rushed it and skied the ball out for a goal kick.

Ivan Franco-3

You might have forgotten Ivan Franco even played in this game with how little he was involved. He continues to play way too passively, not creating anything for himself or others.

Sebas Ferreira-5

Sebas came on with a half hour to go and made a bigger impact than he usually does. He worked harder in the press than we are used to seeing from him with two tackles. He played great in the buildup to a good chance for Thor late on.

Thor Ulfarsson-5

Thor came on at the same time Sebas did and he looked hungry. He put in a big effort and fought hard for the team. He nearly scored if it wasn’t for a massive block from Kemar Lawrence.

Griffin Dorsey-N/A

Dorsey came on late for Escobar, but only played a handful of minutes.

Head Coach

Ben Olsen-6

Olsen tried his best to get a result without Herrera and Bassi. This was never going to be an easy game, but he set up the team fairly well to try and get a draw or get a lucky win. The goal came off an individual error and he made subs early to try and get a result. Starting Aliyu and Quinones was the right call to try and steal a win on the counter if it was not for Escobar’s error.
