Houston Dynamo player ratings at Portland Timbers

The Dynamo ended their regular season campaign in style with a 3-1 victory in Portland. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.

Starters

Steve Clark-8

Steve returned to Portland, where he played for three years of his career. He had a solid display once again, making five saves in this game. Unfortunately, he could not keep another shutout so he will be tied for second in shutouts with Roman Celentano of FC Cincinnati.

Franco Escobar-8

Another impressive defensive display from Franco Escobar. He made six tackles and four blocks. He shut down Santiago Moreno, who has been in tremendous form lately.

Micael-6

His overall game was fine, but he fell asleep on the cross that led to Felipe Mora’s goal. He continued to be active on the ball and his distribution was very good. He needs to stay turned on in those late game situations, however.

Erik Sviatchenko-7

Erik had another good display as the leader in the backline. His passing out of the back was excellent in getting the team up the field. He did a great job marking Mora for most of the game.

Griffin Dorsey-9

The team’s best player not named Hector Herrera over the last few months impressed yet again with his first brace in MLS. His work rate was incredible and his ability to score these incredible goals separates him from most fullbacks in MLS. A poor giveaway that led to Portland’s goal takes him down from what would have been a 10.

Artur-9

Artur had another one of his vintage performances in the midfield. He was everywhere making five tackles and three interceptions. He was then able to turn defense into attack involving himself in multiple goal scoring plays.

Hector Herrera-9

Hector brought his assist total up to 17 with two assists in this match. This put him in second place in MLS behind only Thiago Almada for assists this season. He dominated this game from start to finish, leading the team in touches by a large margin.

Amine Bassi-5

A quiet night for Bassi as he did not see himself involved in any of the goals. He was active on the ball but did not make a huge mark on the game. As always, the energy and work ethic was there, but not enough to warrant a high score.

Coco Carrasquilla-9

This was possibly Coco’s best performance of the season in terms of end product. His biggest criticism is always that he looks great until the final shot or pass but against Portland it all came together. This is perfect time for him to start making a difference on the scoreline with the playoffs coming up.

Nelson Quinones-7

Nelson was very good in terms of playing defense and progressing the ball. He did not make any real impact in the box, however. Not that it was needed in this game, with how it played out.

Corey Baird-4

This was a game where Corey was just not a factor whatsoever. He really did not need to be a big player in this game as the players around him got the job done. His work rate was good as always, just not enough of him on the ball.

Substitutes

Aliyu Ibrahim-4

Like Corey, Aliyu was just not much of a factor in this game. He only touched the ball ten times and did nothing with it. Overall, just a nothing night for both strikers.

Luis Caicedo, Brad Smith, and Daniel Steres-N/A

All three came on after the score was already 3-1. None of them had any time to make an impact on the game.

Head Coach

Ben Olsen-9

A great game plan led to a great performance from the Dynamo. This was the first time in over a decade that the Dynamo earned three points in a regular season game in Portland. He has the team playing some wonderful soccer at the best time of the year to do so. Looking forward to what he can do with this team in the postseason.
