Houston Dynamo player ratings at St. Louis CITY SC

Once again, the Dynamo failed to impress on the road, this time losing 3-0 in St Louis. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.

Starters

Steve Clark-5

Steve did not have a whole lot to do in this game. Two of the goals conceded were penalties. He only managed two saves in a slow night. He did have some nervy moments with the ball at his feet, but he was able to play out of it each time.

Daniel Steres-4

Steres was deployed at right back again and had a poor night. He played tight defense on Celio Pompeu most of the night. He switched off on the set piece that led to the second goal. When he was switched to center back, he gave away a very soft penalty.

Ethan Bartlow-7

This was a much better game from Bartlow. Ideally, he could have helped a bit more in the buildup to the first penalty, but he certainly made up for it the rest of the night. He managed to make four tackles and played a big role in buildup out of the back.

Erik Sviatchenko-7

In Erik’s first start for the club, he played a very solid game. He was solid playing out of the back and contributed to a great partnership with Ethan Bartlow. None of the goals were on him and it was a great start to build off.

Chase Gasper-4

A really poor performance from Gasper as he was under loads of pressure from Tomas Ostrak. He gave away the first penalty of the match that made the Dynamo completely change their strategy. Yes, the penalty was a bit soft, but he shouldn’t have put the ref in a position to make that call.

Luis Caicedo-8

Best performance of the season so far for Caicedo. He was immense, making two tackles, three interceptions, and four blocks. His passing was great as well. He has earned more minutes for sure.

Artur-6

Better from Artur than recently, but still not quite at his best. He played an alright game. Nothing special, but nothing too bad either.

Coco Carrasquilla-3

With Hector Herrera out of the lineup, the Dynamo looked to Coco to carry the team going forward. He miserably failed at doing so, only completing 44% of his passes. It was a case of him trying way too hard to make things happen and it led to rushing passes and trying things he is not capable of.

Ivan Franco-3

Just extremely poor from Franco again. He saw lots of the ball and continuously did nothing with it. His passing and crossing were extremely inaccurate whenever he found himself in great positions.

Corey Baird-5

Baird was the best of the attackers, but that isn’t saying too much. He wasn’t super active in the first half but came alive once Herrera was subbed on. He started playing much more aggressively and was creating tons of danger. Unfortunately, not much end product, but a decent night for the forward.

Aliyu Ibrahim-4

It was an extremely quiet night for the forward. Only seventeen touches in this game and nothing of note came from them. We really see the difference in his play with and without Herrera and Bassi.

Substitutes

Micael-6

Micael came on to manage Sviatchenko’s minutes in the second half. He did an alright job, not making any notable mistakes. He once again moved over to left back when Escobar was subbed on. An improvement on Wednesday night.

Hector Herrera-8

Herrera came on and completely changed the way the Dynamo played. It really showed the difference between Herrera playing and not playing. He managed to have seven shot-creating actions in just 30 minutes.

Franco Escobar-6

Franco came on for Gasper with only 22 minutes left to play. He made a good effort but never really changed the game.

Thor Ulfarsson-5

Thor came on and was a bit more active than Aliyu was. The service was much better to Thor, but he never made too much out of it.

Brooklyn Raines-N/A

Raines was subbed on already 3-0 down. Not much too really grade him on.

Head Coach

Ben Olsen-5

Ben made some adjustments to the lineup to keep players like Herrera fresh. This did not work out best as the level of the team massively drops off without Herrera. The overall team performance was alright and the scoreline does not reflect that. He very rightly criticized the refereeing after the match.
