Houston Dynamo player ratings vs St. Louis CITY SC

The Dynamo dropped two points to a late St Louis equalizer in a 1-1 draw at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday night. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.

Starters

Steve Clark-8

Steve had an immense game, making six saves. A lot of them were some easier saves, but they all count. Unfortunately, the goal came off his best save of the night when the rebound fell right to Joao Klauss. A bit unfortunate there.

Griffin Dorsey-5

Dorsey was his usual self, bombing up and down the right-hand side creating all sorts of issues for St Louis. His final ball let him down on a few occasions. His defending has been very solid since coming back into the lineup, but he finally got found out in the buildup to the equalizing goal.

Erik Sviatchenko-8

Another great performance from the dominant center back. He did a great job contesting Klauss for most of the night. For the goal, his defending was fine and he made the right decision to go to ground to try and block the cross. Unfortunately, the ball from Indiana Vassilev was very good and went by him.

Micael-8

Like Erik, Micael had another solid defensive night. Not a lot got past Micael, making two blocks, one tackle, and one interception. His passing was solid and broke down St Louis’ press more often than not.

Franco Escobar-5

Escobar had another really good night going forward. Aziel Jackson was able to get passed him way too many times. Thankfully, Jackson lacked the quality to create or score for himself whenever he would beat Escobar.

Artur-9

Artur had one of his most impressive performances in a Dynamo shirt so far. He was able to make five tackles and four interceptions. He was excellent going forward and looked great with the ball at his feet. His dribbling in tight spaces is much better than most players in his position.

Hector Herrera-9

More of what we are used to with Hector. He put in another performance where he dominates every area of the game. He led both teams with 103 total touches. Defensively, he made four blocks and two tackles. His ability to connect with Bassi in the box was incredible leading to the first goal.

Coco Carrasquilla-4

It’s games like this where we would love to see Coco step up and take over a game and he just didn’t do that. He had a great chance to make it 2-0 and he skewed the shot on his weaker left foot. Love Coco, but we have higher expectations for him.

Amine Bassi-8

It is crazy how good Bassi can be in one game and then disappear the next. This was one of those games where he was on. His playmaking ability in tight spaces was excellent and he created a beautiful goal. The only complaint is that he just needs to be willing to shoot the ball more.

Nelson Quinones-5

Not Nelson’s greatest night, failing to make a real impact in the box in the many times he found himself in good positions. It is clear he is working on his decision making and it will only get better. I felt he was subbed out way too early as well.

Corey Baird-7

Baird was mostly invisible for a lot of this game. When the ball came to him with an opportunity to score he took it very well. Not a crazy impactful performance from Corey, but you can never complain with your striker when he scores an important goal.

Substitutes

Brad Smith-5

Brad came in for Nelson to help see out the game. He barely got on the ball and was mostly a non-factor in this game at all.

Aliyu Ibrahim and Sebastian Kowalczyk-N/A

Both came in with very little time to impact the game. Neither looked very good but it was hard to give them a real score.

Head Coach

Ben Olsen-7

Ben got it right with the lineup and set up his team well to counter St Louis’s pressing game. The team mostly played well for the first 70 minutes. He made the defensive sub a bit too early, in my opinion, and that affected the way the team was able to respond to the tying goal. Overall, the team played well against the top team in the Western Conference. It’s hard to complain with a point even it was because of a late equalizer.
