Houston Dynamo vs Columbus Crew - Staff picks

The Houston Dynamo welcome the Columbus Crew to Shell Energy Stadium tonight to kick off the Champions Cup Round of 16 tie. We asked our staff to weigh in on how they see the Dynamo and Crew playing out tonight.

Cristian - 2-1 Dynamo loss
(Record: 1-2)

It’s Columbus and this is a wounded Dynamo. My heart always wants a win but facts don’t care about feelings. Columbus has a better roster and they have the edge in this match.

Rudy - 2-1 Dynamo loss
(Record: 1-2)

The Dynamo looked dazed and confused at home Saturday night. I sort of expect some of the same against the best team in MLS. I’m hoping that I am reverse jinxing the outcome but the Crew look to have the upper hand in all categories over the Dynamo right now. Houston loses at home tonight.

Manny - 3-1 Dynamo loss
(Record: 0-3)

The Crew are due to explode with their attacking force against someone and unluckily it might be the Dynamo. The Dynamo will do their best to hold off the attack but with no real outlet for goal-scoring, it’s really hard to see how they can find some goals while not letting Columbus score.

Joey - 2-1 Dynamo win
(Record: 1-2)

I don’t see the Dynamo going two games in a row at home without a win. It will be ugly and it will take set pieces or pens to score goals. Steve Clark will have to come up huge.

Billy - 3-1 Dynamo loss
(Record: 2-1)

What can we say? The Dynamo had prolific early season success last year when they continuously shocked MLS with their exciting and effective play. However, they are not back there just yet. With the litany of roster and health issues the Dynamo face, as well as the league's most dangerous offense in Columbus, expect the Dynamo to struggle at home again in this midweek Concacaf clash.

Dustyn - 1-1 draw
(Record: 2-1)

I’ve gone back and forth on this. I just don’t see how the Dynamo win this game. Columbus is that good. However, I think they rest some guys and give some of their backups minutes tonight. The Dynamo grab a goal and a draw in this leg while still going to Columbus with an uphill battle.
