Houston Dynamo vs FC Dallas staff picks

It’s a Texas Derby to start the 2025 season as the Houston Dynamo host FC Dallas. We asked our staff for their predictions on tonight’s match.

Cristian - 3-1 Dynamo win
(Record: 0-0)

Chemistry will be the deciding factor. Even with key pieces gone, the incoming ones are equal, if not better, to the ones that left. This Dynamo team should be able to pick up where they left off last year and will go against an FC Dallas side that has a new coach and a bunch of new faces. Dallas should be able to score because they have talented individuals but Houston can outscore them.

Rudy - 2-1 Dynamo win
(Record: 0-0)

My reasoning is simple, this team has gone through changes but the core is there going into Ben Olsen’s third season with the club. The opposite can be said for Dallas. Therefore, even with the weather becoming a factor in leveling the playing field, I think that the crowd and the return to Shell Energy Stadium should push the Dynamo to a win over their fierce rivals.

Joey - 2-1 Dynamo win
(Record: 0-0)

The first game of the season is always difficult to predict. Both teams had a lot of turnover in their roster but unlike Dallas, the Dynamo have the same coach and system. They also replaced their departures with like-for-like players like Jack McGlynn for Hector Herrera. I think the familiarity will give Houston the edge in a close game.

Dustyn - 1-1 draw
(Record: 0-0)

It could be a messy game with rain in the forecast. Dallas may not be at full strength yet with Lucho Acosta just joining the team but all he needs is a moment. Houston’s home struggles from last year carry over to the opener as they slog to a draw.

Manny - 1-0 Dynamo win
(Record 0-0)

It’s going to be a cagey match tonight. It’s the first game of the season and a derby match. Rain and the cold will play a huge factor in this tie. I believe Houston will have the upper hand in this match with the huge pieces they added to cover departures. There are still question marks around Eric Quill and how he will do in his first game in charge. I believe the Dynamo will get the goal and sit back to defend with the weather conditions.
