Houston Dynamo vs Inter Miami player ratings

The Houston Dynamo were demolished 4-1 by Inter Miami on Sunday Night Soccer. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.

Starters

Andrew Tarbell-5

It was not a good night for Tarbell but this was also just not his fault either. There is not a whole lot a goalkeeper can do when Miami’s forwards have three separate easy chances in front of goal like they did. Not sure any goalkeeper out there saves that wonder strike from Tadeo Allende either.

Griffin Dorsey-6

Griffin was one of the only players who looked like he gave his all out there on the field, despite being outclassed in talent. Defensively, he made very little impact, but he got forward well and created the best chance the Dynamo had on the night.

Erik Sviatchenko-2.5

Erik did not look ready to play this game. He was just coming back from an injury and looked extremely rusty before being subbed out at halftime. His defending on two of the three goals conceded was incredibly poor.

Obafemi Awodesu-5

For what it’s worth, Femi played his heart out Sunday night even if he stood no chance against a legend like Luis Suarez. He had some really good defensive plays in this match, but just got outclassed when Suarez turned it on in the key moments.

Franco Escobar-3

Franco looked lost in his 55 minutes on the field. His positioning when the team was playing out of the back was awful, leading to many costly mistakes. Benjamin Cremaschi made Escobar look like he was the player just turning 20 years old.

Artur-1

Artur had easily the worst performance of his MLS career. He was just straight up horrible in almost every aspect. He couldn’t keep the ball and made zero impact defensively as Miami tore the midfield to shreds over and over. Artur also showed a huge lack of leadership when he is supposed to be the captain pulling everyone together.

Jack McGlynn-1.5

Ouch, Jack looked like a kid being asked to play way too big of a role in a new team, because that is what he is. He answered the call last week against Dallas, but this week he was just outclassed. Multiple bad turnovers and awful defensive positioning led to an abysmal midfield display. His set piece delivery was also disgustingly bad.

Amine Bassi-2.5

It was a a very poor showing from Amine, who failed to create any meaningful chances whatsoever. He also failed to make his presence known in the box, failing to make runs on multiple occasions. He and Ponce NEED to get on the same page and need to do this quick.

Sebastian Kowalczyk-6.5

I can almost copy and paste what was said about Kowalczyk last week. He worked his tail off and was solid in possession despite not being very special. He did a really nice job to win some dangerous free kicks as well.

Ibrahim Aliyu-6.5

Aliyu looked like the best player on the field for the Dynamo in the first half, being the only player capable of transitioning the ball into the attack. He was giving Ian Fray issues, especially when drifting inside. He was so close to getting a goal back, but his left leg was just an inch or two too short.

Ezequiel Ponce-2.5

Ponce was just not dangerous enough. He still seems to lack chemistry with both Bassi and Aliyu, creating odd positioning between the three. He barely had a sniff of a chance in this game.

Substitutes

Ethan Bartlow-5

Ethan came on for Erik at halftime and had a much better display than Erik did. He only conceded one goal in the game where Suarez made him look like the young player he is. Overall, not too bad, but not good either.

Daniel Steres-6

When Daniel came on, he was just kind of there. Barely anything to note for Steres. He did his job quietly, like usual, without standing out.

Nicolas Lodeiro-7

Lodeiro looked very positive coming off the bench, even scoring the lone goal. This was certainly an environment where he thrives, getting to create and make plays against a team defending a lead.

Erik Dueñas-6

Dueñas gave some good energy off the bench. He managed to find Lodeiro to assist the only goal of the match.

Gabe Segal-N/A

Segal was not on the field long enough to warrant a rating. His movement was really solid but he lacked any sort of confidence to put together a real play of note.

Head Coach

Ben Olsen-2

It’s hard to be critical of Ben when it came to the lineup decisions. However, in terms of the tactics and getting his players ready to go, he absolutely failed. He said it himself that he was outcoached and outclassed by Javier Mascherano’s side. He also said it is on him to figure out how to get the best out of this new group even if it requires some changes.
