Houston Dynamo vs LAFC staff picks

The Houston Dynamo will try and take advantage of a LAFC team in the middle of Champions Cup play to get their first home points of 2025. We asked our staff for their predictions on tonight’s match.
Cristian - 2-1 Dynamo win
(Record: 1-5)
In the game against Portland, I predicted a Houston win, thinking they'd be playing with a chip on their shoulder after a rough start to the season—especially coming off a solid draw in Seattle. But after yet another crushing defeat, the Dynamo return home to face one of the league’s top teams in recent years: LAFC. Strangely enough, Houston has had LAFC’s number in their most recent matchups. Let’s hope Ben Olsen’s squad shows up not just with a chip on their shoulder, but with a whole family-size bag of Doritos (pick your favorite flavor) strapped to their back. With LAFC likely rotating their squad due to CONCACAF Champions Cup commitments, and the Dynamo desperate to turn the tide, I’m calling it now: the first win of the season for the Orange.
Rudy - 1-0 Dynamo win
(Record: 1-5)
LAFC returns to Houston amid a crucial CONCACAF Champions Cup clash with Inter Miami, likely prompting Steve Cherundolo to rotate his squad. If the Dynamo can stay defensively solid and avoid mistakes, their first win of the season could be within reach. The real question—who will score the decisive goal?
Joey - 2-2 draw
(Record: 2-4)
Things are starting to look up for the Dynamo, with some players returning from injuries and new additions to the squad. However, they’re not quite ready but the Dynamo desperately need points on the board so that they’re not too far down the standings when the cavalry comes. Expect the Dynamo to put in a big team performance but fail to get over the line with a win due to the lack of quality in comparison with LAFC.
Dustyn - 1-1 draw
(Record: 2-4)
If LAFC rests a number of starters, and I think they will, this will be a great chance for the Dynamo to get their first win of the season. But, even with their second-string in, this LAFC team is deep and talented. A draw feels like a fair result but Houston really needs to start stringing together wins.
Manny - 2-1 Dynamo loss
(Record 2-4)
Houston is coming off a rough loss to Portland, while LAFC picked up a midweek win against Inter Miami in Champions Cup. Still, LAFC remains in a bit of a strange funk—they’re inconsistent. At times, they make uncharacteristic defensive mistakes, and in others, they look dangerous, constantly pressing in the opponent’s penalty area. It seems like LAFC might be finding their rhythm again, while the Dynamo look like they need a spark—or maybe even a miracle—to climb back up the standings.
