HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN
On the result:
“It was a wild one. New England entered the match with real desperation and fire, and we were lucky to have kept it scoreless in the first half. Steve Clark had a big hand in that with a great performance tonight. The second half still wasn't our best soccer, but it was better because we played more like ourselves and got the win. Now we have to patch ourselves up for another difficult task in St. Louis, but this win is massive as we try to move up the table.”
On the goals scored:
“It was a great performance from both (Ezequiel Ponce and Erik Sviatchenko). We benefited from Ezequiel coming on because he gave us a different element. His goal was a thing of beauty, and Erik’s goal was too. One came from open play and the other from a set piece, which (interim assistant coach) Kenny Bundy has helped us out with a lot.”
On Coco Carrasquilla’s performance:
“The way we build up with Coco (Carrasquilla) is slightly different from Héctor (Herrera), but he has different qualities. Coco can still drive with the ball, and he also has that power to put himself in situations where he's past defenders and can play the ball. One of his great qualities is that we can play him in the middle, and he can also deliver out wide. Coco has great quality in the holding spot, and he put in a great shift tonight.”
HOUSTON DYNAMO DEFENDER ERIK SVIATCHENKO
On his goal:
“It was the best goal I’ve scored in my career. Normally I'm over on the other side, but then it just happened that I decided to take it down, and it was perfect for a volley. It is a nice feeling.”
On Ezequiel Ponce:
“(Ezequiel Ponce) is a key player for us. We should appreciate a finish from that far outside of the box. I don't know how he does it, but that was incredible.”
On how this match sets the mentality:
“We’ll finish this week with the mindset of securing another three points after getting this win at home. My mind is set on continuing to build the momentum and that run of confidence going into playoffs. It is very crucial.”
