HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN
On the game:
"We had nine players, down a man, really compact, really frustrated them throughout most of the night, and then we put ourselves in another hole. We went down to eight field players and even then, you know the guys gave a real shift and made it really difficult. Sometimes in these types of games you can only hold them off for so long. A little play across the box, and they get their goal towards the end. It’s deflating in a bunch of different areas, but it is what it is. We’ll lick our wounds tomorrow, and we’ll get back. We have a busy week with two away games, so we have a lot of work to do.”
On surrending the first goal at home this season and the team’s progress:
“We gave up one goal at home today. We had 10 players and then nine players. It would have been nice to continue that and give ourselves a chance or at least grab a point out of this. At some point it’s pretty difficult. A lot of service, a lot of open play from them, and they sneak a little bit of a bobbled play there in the end. I thought we had it covered, but we lick our wounds. It’s a good team. We didn’t do ourselves any favors with some of the discipline and the red again is a little bit questionable. I see why he called it, and then (MF) Hector’s (Herrera) second yellow. I didn’t think he needed to call that, particularly the way he handled most of the game. I thought he could have looked away on that one, but it’s fine. We’ll lick our wounds. We’ve got a big week.”
HOUSTON DYNAMO MIDFIELDER ARTUR
On his takeaways from the match:
“We need to learn from the mistakes that happened today. Overall, it was a good effort from the whole team. We need better luck, and we could have held on to at least one point tonight.”
On how disappointing this result is:
"Disappointing, considering the two red cards and (losing) here at home. That’s the way things play out. It doesn't feel good. We work very hard to keep improving and keep things rolling at home. Especially when we've been doing so good at home. We just have to keep our heads up. We've done a lot of good things. We are going to learn from our mistakes and find the right balance between the intensity and everything else that we need to do, as well as have our minds in the right spot."
On the positive to take from this match:
"Sticking together. We are a good group of teammates. When we play together, we support each other, we help each other with and without the ball. We did that today. Even after we go down two men, we still held on for a little bit. It was an unlucky play that led to their goal. We kept fighting and pushing each other and we never gave up. That's a positive."
