Houston Dynamo vs Sporting Kansas City - Staff Picks

The Houston Dynamo welcome Sporting Kansas City to Shell Energy Stadium tonight to kick off the Major League Soccer season. We asked our staff to weigh in on how they see the Dynamo and SKC playing out tonight.

Cristian - 2-1 Dynamo win
(Record: 1-0)

Luckily, the Dynamo were able to shake off the jitters in that first game against St. Louis, so I believe in this game we will see a more confident squad. SKC is a difficult opponent, so they will keep it close, but home-field advantage will end up giving the Dynamo the victory in the end.

Rudy - 2-0 Dynamo win
(Record: 1-0)

Knowing that the Dynamo have a very important game on Tuesday, I still think that we will likely see the same lineup on Saturday night from what we saw in the first leg of Champions Cup. Scared money doesn’t make money. Ben Olsen is a competitive man that wants to win every game. I think that the gamble pays off in front of an animated crowd against Sporting KC, but might be too risky for the turn around on Tuesday.

Manny - 1-0 Dynamo win
(Record: 0-1)

After their first match in the CCC, it’s time to shift to MLS play. The Dynamo showed that they still have the spark from last year, even with many absences. SKC is an opponent they know well and it's time to get points to start the season in the right way. Let's see how Olsen handles the attacking third and solidifies the defense from Tuesday. I expect them to get a win and close the game to prepare for Tuesday.

Joey - 1-1 draw
(Record: 0-1)

I don’t see a way the Dynamo walk away from this game scoring multiple goals. Houston are usually very good defensively at home, so we could easily see this be 1-0 win as well. However, I think SKC are just too good offensively to be shut out.

Billy - 1-1 draw
(Record: 1-0)

Feels like a draw here while the Dynamo continue to iron out their early season questions. SKC are more than capable of picking up a goal on the road and the Dynamo have a chance to see who will step up into a leadership role to provide them with some form of stability to start off the MLS season.

Dustyn - 1-1 draw
(Record: 1-0)

Sporting looks like a team that could finish in the top half of the Western Conference. I’m not sure where the goals are going to come from for the Dynamo this season, especially without Hector Herrera and Sebas Ferreira. I could see SKC winning this one but I’ll go with a draw behind a good crowd at Shell Energy Stadium.
