HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN
On the result:
“We stopped the slide of losing and recorded a shutout. Getting back to that at home is a good recipe for success. We also had 22 shots, twelve of which were inside the box, so that is also a good recipe to win games. The goal is a little bit small for us right now, but there was some good goalkeeping, and we were a little bit unlucky at times.”
On stopping the St. Louis attack:
“They can score goals, and it is impressive to keep that team off the board. They come right down the middle at you, and (Joao) Klaus is a handful. Micael did a great job of battling with him because he is one of the best and most well-rounded forwards in the league. Overall, we did a pretty good job, and I was pleased to keep them off the scoreboard.”
On improvements since last week:
“Our concentration level was high, especially on the defensive end. Things happen quickly when you play a team like St. Louis that is built to transition quickly when they win the ball. But we need to actively defend and continue to be focused on the transition moments if we’re going to have success and score some goals. I'm confident that'll come.”
HOUSTON DYNAMO DEFENDER ERIK SVIATCHENKO
On the result:
“It was a very tough game, and both teams wanted to win. We kept the ball for a good amount of time, but there is still a lot to improve. In general, we kept pushing to get the three points we wanted, especially at home. But if you can’t win, it is very important to keep a clean sheet mentality, because that's the second best you can do. We can build upon this result.”
On the clean sheet:
“It's always nice for us defenders to keep a clean sheet, but it’s a team effort. We won’t be able to do anything at the back if the team isn’t working hard to get back in the right positions, counter press and move the line to remain compact. Going up against (Joao) Klauss, we have a good relationship on the pitch and respect each other, and we had some good fights tonight. It was nice to keep them off the score sheet, but we still need to see if we can get the goals.”
On the current mood of the locker room:
“Our group is glued together. There are not many cracks appearing, and that's a very healthy sign, especially in a period where we're not getting everything that we need or want. I’ve learned that MLS goes in waves. We have our mind set on the next game, and the season is still very long.”
