Each week we’ll be looking more into the Houston Dynamo’s opponent, talking to media that covers the team, digging into what we can expect from that squad, and in this series, taking a look at three players to watch from the upcoming opponent. As the Houston Dynamo gear up for their Sunday night showdown against the Portland Timbers, they’ll be facing a team that’s starting to find its rhythm. After a tough start to the season, Portland has picked up points in their last two matches, showing signs of a team settling into form. To come away with a result, Houston will need to keep a close eye on some key Portland players who have been making an impact. Here are three names to watch:

Antony

Antony has been one of Portland’s most exciting players this season. The Brazilian forward brings speed, skill, and a sharp eye for goal, making him a constant threat in the attacking third. He’s already found the back of the net multiple times in 2025, proving to be a go-to option for the Timbers in crucial moments. Whether it’s his quick footwork or his ability to finish in tight spaces, Houston’s defense will have to be on high alert whenever he’s on the ball.

David Da Costa

A new addition to the Timbers this season, Portuguese midfielder David Da Costa has quickly stepped into a leadership role in the midfield. After arriving from French club RC Lens, he’s wasted no time making an impact, already scoring a match-winner with a beautifully curled free kick against Austin FC. He’s a creative force, capable of dictating the pace of play and unlocking defenses with his passing. If Houston wants to control the midfield battle, shutting down Da Costa will be a top priority.

Jimer Fory

At just 22 years old, Colombian defender Jimer Fory has added both size and versatility to Portland’s backline. Standing at 6-foot-2, he’s dominant in the air and strong in one-on-one situations. Before joining the Timbers, he was a key player for Independiente Medellín, gaining experience in top South American competitions. Whether he’s playing as a left back or sliding into a center back role, Fory brings a physical presence that Houston’s attackers will have to work hard to break down.

Portland has been improving with each match, and these three players will be central to their game plan on Sunday. If the Dynamo can contain them, they’ll have a good shot at leaving Providence Park with a result.
