Drafted from the University of North Carolina, Avery Patterson arrived with high regard following her college stint. Most notably, her ability to play multiple positions in the front line while being a strong defensive presence in the backline stood out. She quickly became a key player for the Dash at the age of 21.

Fran Alonso took advantage of her versatility in several matches, deploying her on the wing, in midfield, and eventually settling her into the fixed position of right wing back. Even under interim head coach Ricky Clarke, Patterson remained a crucial figure for the team.

Her grit and work rate, both on and off the ball, made her the engine of the Dash. It’s no surprise that she played in all but one game for the team (she remained on the bench against the San Diego Wave). Patterson logged 2,072 minutes, just 178 minutes shy of Dash captain Jane Campbell, solidifying her as a central figure and rising star for the Dash.

Moment of the season

It took 24 matches for Avery Patterson to score her first goal for the team. This goal perfectly reflects what Avery brings to the side—fearlessly pressuring defenders. She confidently exploits the open spaces, as seen here, and isn’t afraid to make quick decisions in the box. As she continues to mature, she will only get better and better.

Looking forward

Patterson signed a three-year contract through 2026 after being drafted. Given her strong start with the Space City side, she is poised to continue improving. There’s no doubt Patterson will become a key player for the Dash, one they’ll build around for many years to come. Sit back and enjoy watching her continued progression as a player.
