It feels weird to give a player who was in contention for the Ballon D’or a C, but this is strictly for what she did with the Dash and nothing to do with her excellence for the Brazilian National Team. She signed in April for the third highest transfer fee in the history of the women’s game. This brought massive expectations to revive a team that was struggling on the defensive side of the ball.

She made her debut in what was the best performance from the Dash all season, a 3-0 win against North Carolina. She played excellently in this match, but it went a little downhill from there. She was never particularly bad at any point in the season, but she was never great either.

In the women’s game, signing a national team player for big money always comes with risk with how many international games these teams play. Tarciane spent most of her season either with Brazil or injured so she was never able to give a consistent run of good games for the Dash.

Moment of the season

She never really had a particular shining moment, but we will highlight her entire debut, as this was a fantastic performance from not just her, but the team as a whole. Every strong win starts at the back where Tarciane was brilliant defending a strong North Carolina team with the likes of Ashley Sanchez. Her great defensive display alongside Natalie Jacobs and Paige Nielsen allowed North Carolina only three shots on target, despite them dominating the possession battle.

Looking forward

This report was a bit harsh towards a player with the talent Tarciane holds. However, star players need to be available and produce star player moments on a regular basis, which Tarciane failed to do this season. There is no doubt she will improve next year with a potential for a stronger roster and coaching staff around her. Look forward to a potential long and successful career in Houston for the Brazilian star.
