Houston Dash sign midfielder Delanie Sheehan
The Houston Dash have made their first move of the offseason, signing free agent Delanie Sheehan through the 2026 season with a mutual option for the 2027 season. Interim general manager Erik Ustruck, who the club hired as a consultant, led this transaction for the club.
Sheehan, who turns 26 next month, was last with Gotham FC where she made 25 appearances and 24 starts for the club as they made a run to the NWSL semifinal. Sheehan had 2 goals and 1 assist this season for the New York/New Jersey club. She was drafted 33rd overall in the 2021 NWSL draft by Gotham and appeared in 64 games, including 6 during a loan spell in France with Paris FC.
“Delanie’s championship experience, versatility and consistency make her a perfect fit for the competitive culture we’re building in Houston,” Ustruck said. “Her character, leadership, and shared passion for creating a lasting impact stood out during our conversations. We’re confident that her contributions will be instrumental in shaping the club's future and inspiring those around her as we continue to build for sustained success.”
Sheehan appeared in the postseason 3 of 4 seasons with Gotham, winning the championship in 2023. She played collegiately at UCLA where she made 86 appearances between 2017 and 2021, with 15 goals and 18 assists. Sheehan has represented the United States at the Youth levels for the U-18, U-19, and U-20 teams.
“I’m excited to start this new chapter of my career with the Houston Dash. I look forward to being in a new environment with unique opportunities,” Sheehan said. “I believe in the talent and vision of this club and truly feel they are committed to investing in the long-term success of both the club and my career. I can’t wait to start this journey with my new teammates and am eager to see what we can accomplish in the upcoming seasons.”
Sheehan should slot directly into the Dash midfield as a starter. Depending on who the new coach is and what system they play, Sheehan would be an ideal fit in a midfield three. She could play as the 8 with Barbara Olivieri as a 10 and Sophie Schmidt as a 6. This is the first move of what should me many for Houston this offseason, so stay tuned.
