2024 in review
Belle Briede was one of the first signings for the Dash at the start of the offseason. After winning the Supporters’ Shield with the San Diego Wave, expectations were high that Briede would bolster the midfield, either as a starter or as a valuable option off the bench.
However, despite several key departures during the offseason, Briede struggled to make a significant impact in the midfield. She started just one match under Fran Alonso, the Dash’s season opener, but her role diminished as the season progressed.
Even with the change in leadership under interim head coach Ricky Clarke, Briede’s contributions remained limited. Although she had a high number of touches on the ball, her involvement in key offensive actions—such as progressive passes or carries—was minimal. As the season went on, it became evident that Briede often faded into games, making little to no impact on the field.
Moment of the season
Briede started the first game of the season for Houston, as mentioned above, playing 62 minutes and recording a shot on target. It was her only shot on target of the NWSL season and she only started one other match in league play, against her former club San Diego in October.
Looking forward
In the trade with San Diego for Briede, the Dash acquired her on a one-year contract. She will now enter free agency going into next season. Given her diminishing impact and reduced minutes as the season progressed, it’s difficult to make a strong case for her return in 2025.
