2024 in review

Heather Hinz was drafted with the 38th overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft. After a decorated career at the University of South Carolina, Hinz jumped to the pro level as an understudy for Jane Campbell.

Hinz made her pro debut in the NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup against Tigres. The Dash won the match 2-1 and Hinz made six saves, conceding just one goal. Hinz also started the final match of the Summer Cup for Houston, a 3-0 win over Pachuca. She recored a clean sheet and made another six saves.

Hinz’s NWSL debut came in the final match of the regular season, with Campbell injured. The former Gamecock made five saves in the match that ended in a 3-1 defeat for Houston.

Moment of the season

Heather made some big saves in all three matches she appeared in this season. Her best save of the bunch came against Pachuca with the Dash leading 2-0 late. The stop at point blank range showed Hinz’s athleticism and her quickness that will allow her to play at the pro level for some time.

Looking forward

Needing more minutes and match time, the Dash sent Hinz on loan earlier this month to Fort Lauderdale United FC in the USL Super League. Hinz made her debut for the club in a 1-1 draw against Tampa Bay Sun FC. She is set to return from the loan in February, in time for Dash preseason camp. Hinz should back up Campbell again in 2025 after proving to be a solid backup that can do the job when called upon.
