2024 in review
Andressa Alves had a pretty insignificant season with the Houston Dash in 2024, as the team faced challenges on and off the field. Throughout the season, Andressa was given the opportunity to be a key midfield presence, contributing not only with her technical skills but also as a playmaker. Unfortunately, she failed to be a factor in helping the Houston Dash offensively. The Brazilian played different positions under Fran Alonso and Ricky Clarke. She spent time out wide, as a central midfielder, and even as a striker, but was unable to solidify any of the roles. Andressa showed flashes of dribbling ability but struggled to unlock the opposition’s defense in many one on one occasions.
The Dash finished at the bottom of the NWSL standings, underscoring a season of rebuilding and adaptation for the team. Of course, this doesn’t fall directly on Andressa’s underperformance. The season was a difficult one for the club and Andressa, to say the least.
Moment of the season
Andressa scored her only goal in league play in the 3-1 loss at home to the Utah Royals, which was her best game of the season. Besides the goal, she also had six shot-creating actions and three successful take-ons.
Looking forward
Andressa was signed for the 2024 season with an option for 2025. However, she struggled to significantly boost the team’s offensive numbers, showing signs that her peak performance years might be behind her. Given the team’s current phase of intermittent progress, the decision to extend her contract will require careful assessment and strategic consideration.
