HOUSTON DASH ASSISTANT COACH RICKY CLARKE

On the match:

“This was a difficult game, in the first half we made a couple of mistakes and we got punished. The game was a little bit too stretched in the first half. In the second half, we adjusted a few things, and I think you see from the second half, we asked for a response. We got a response. We just couldn't find the back of the net.”

On the team’s offensive performance:

“Maybe because we were chasing the game so much in those areas, we were a little bit rushed. One of the things we spoke about at halftime was stretching the game more and asking players to be more dynamic in the wide areas. For us, it's been a process these last four or five games and there's been really good moments, but we've also had moments where we've let ourselves down. To concede a goal from a penalty and then from a set piece. That is frustrating, but the response is the most important thing. We speak about three things. It's our effort, our attitude and our responses that we can control in the game. Today, you saw a response to the first half, which was a positive to take forward. Now we go on a 10-day road trip and we take those positives with us.”

On not qualifying for the playoffs:

“I've said it before. For us, it's always been one game at a time, and we can't control the things that happen around us. Our focus is just to keep moving forward. Focus on the next game, get our head down, try and address some of the things that happened in this game, and that's what we'll do. Frustrating for sure. We work here with some of the best players in the world, let's make sure we have that really clear. We've got some unbelievable players in this building, so I would imagine that's difficult, and that hurts them. But we also have a job to do, and we have to keep moving forward, and we have to play for these last three games. That's something they're going to do. We asked for a response at halftime today, and we got that. That shows that the players care, they play for the badge, and that we're all in this together.”

HOUSTON DASH MIDFIELDER SOPHIE SCHMIDT

On the game:

“It's always a pleasure to play at home. We've got amazing fans, atmosphere and a perfect stadium. We’re disappointed that we didn't get the win. We didn't come out strong in the first half and they took advantage of the two chances they had. We were a bit sloppy and slow, but we rectified that in the second half and threw everything at them. We just couldn't find a way to finish. I’m proud of the way we performed in the second half.”

On her contract extension:

“I'm so happy to re-sign, I've been a part of this club for a while now. We've been through a lot. The bones are there. We've got some great players. We know what it takes and what we need to do to move forward. I'm very excited to put in the work.”

On the future of the organization:

“What you saw there in the second half is a bit of what's to come. We just need to find the final product. There's something beautiful that is about to happen here in Houston. I can feel it. I want to be a part of it, help cultivate it and bring it to life. The city deserves it, fans are going to celebrate it, and I'm excited for the opportunity that lies ahead. I'm going to throw everything at it to make it come to life. I know the girls that have re-signed and are part of this team feel the same way. Our hearts are in it. I'm excited. We have a very clear vision moving forward, and we're going to do everything we can to finish up the season strong.”
