It was a tale of two teams Saturday night at Shell Energy Stadium. The Houston Dynamo came into this match having won all their games at home, and yet to concede a goal. Inter Miami came to Houston on the back of five straight losses. It took time, as has been custom for the Dynamo at home, but Houston eventually found their breakthrough, kept a clean sheet, and took the three points.

Miami’s Leo Campana had the best of the chances for the visitors in the opening 45 minutes. In the 8th minute he was alone in front of goal for a header but Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark rose to the occasion to make the save. Then in the 27th minute is the Ecuadoran again who was denied at point blank range by Clark. The rebound came back to Campana and he hit the post.

Houston’s best looks from the first half came from Franco Escobar and Ivan Franco. Escobar lined up a volley in the 13th minute but Miami captain DeAndre Yedlin did well to get across and block the shot. In the 35th minute, captain Hector Herrera whipped a dangerous free kick into the box. Franco got his head on it back across goal and defender Teenage Hadebe was just unable to reach the ball. The teams went into halftime scoreless.

The Dynamo came out of half time and nearly found the net. Corey Baird and Amine Bassi played a clever one-two at the top of the box but Baird pushed the shot wide. Designated Player Sebastian Ferreira came on in the 62nd minute, looking to spark the game to life.

Houston nearly put the ball in their own net in the 62nd minute when a ball came off a Dynamo player and off the post before Clark could scramble to keep it out of the goal. Miami got unlucky with a Nicolas Stefanelli strike from outside the box that rattled the post.

The breakthrough for Houston came in the 72nd minute. Ferreira did well in the box to occupy defenders. Coco Carrasquilla chipped a ball into the path off Baird and he headed it down to Daniel Steres in stride. Steres took the shot and it deflected up and over Callender to give the Dynamo the lead.

Houston was able to see out the game with another solid performance from the Dynamo and their goalkeeper Clark. The loss piled more misery on Miami, with this being their sixth straight loss. The Dynamo have now won all their games at Shell Energy Stadium in 2023, and have not conceded a goal. Houston will next play in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday as they travel to take on USL Championship side Tampa Bay Rowdies.
