Raining Goals

It’s been raining here in Houston the last couple of days and the goals are starting to pour in for the Dynamo. Houston has scored seven goals in their last three MLS games, showing some signs of improvement on offense. The big-money DP striker is on the way as well, with the club announcing the signing of Argentine striker Ezequiel Ponce this week. This could be the start of a new-look Dynamo team banging in the goals? Ponce can’t play until July 20, but in the mean time Houston will look to continue finding the back of the net on a regular basis.

Leaking Goals Too

While the offense is improving and scoring more goals, the defense has also begun to let more in. The Dynamo have conceded twice in both of their last two games. Head coach Ben Olsen spoke about the mistakes his team is making, saying teams aren’t earning goals against them. He said his team is putting opponents in position to score easy goals. The whole team needs to work on their possession and not giving away the ball in dangerous areas. Scoring more is good, but if it comes at the expense of conceding more, some adjustments are going to have to be made either tactically or to the lineup.

Bogey Team

The Dynamo have beaten the Sounders just once in their last 13 meetings, including the playoffs. They haven’t drawn any of those games, with Seattle winning 12 of them. The only Houston win in that stretch was in October of 2021 when Maxi Urruti and Darwin Quintero scored for the Dynamo. Seattle has consistently been good, since they joined MLS, and they’re a tough team to beat for anyone. But for whatever reason, the Dynamo just can’t find success against the team from the PNW. Seattle has won in their last two trips to Shell Energy Stadium in 2022 and 2023. Can the Dynamo break the streak tonight?
