Houston Dynamo vs Colorado Rapids staff picks

The Houston Dynamo are back at home looking for another win this season over Colorado. We asked our staff to weigh in on if the Dynamo can get a win against the Rapids tonight.

Cristian - 1-1 draw
(Record: 4-9)

The inconsistency in front of goal is something to worry about, but dead balls/set plays could be the saving grace until the summer window for this Dynamo team. Colorado, even with goal scorers in their squad, haven't been consistent this year. A tie seems fair for both.

Rudy - 1-0 Dynamo win
(Record: 5-8)

Houston just can’t seem to find the back of the net, even from inches away. Colorado has been inconsistent all year, but they can score, unlike the Dynamo. The weather will be a factor here with humidity being so high, which should work in Ben Olsen’s team’s favor, but again, they play well but lack the goal poacher to put the game away. One goal might be enough with Houston getting all three points at home. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if we see delays due to rain and lightning. Fingers crossed that is not the case!

Manny - 1-0 Dynamo win
(Record: 2-11)

Colorado are coming in in inconsistent form, not knowing what Rapids team is going to show up. Some would say the same about the Dynamo. Unlike the Rapids, the Dynamo have been consistent on the way they attack and approach the game. They may be unlucky on scoring opportunities (Aliyu’s miss vs LA Galaxy) but sooner or later they will score.

Joey - 3-1 Dynamo win
(Record: 4-9)

Colorado have conceded 11 goals in their last five games, giving the Dynamo a perfect opportunity to score a few goals at home. The offense showed some positive signs against the Galaxy on Saturday, so this might be the day it comes together.

Dustyn - 0-0 draw
(Record: 3-10)

The Dynamo remain at the bottom of MLS in expected goals per 90 minutes at 1.03, only .01 ahead of Sporting KC who are worst (per fbref.com). They did put up 1.9 xG in the game against the Galaxy but .67 of that came from Blessing’s goal that was passed to him from LA’s goalkeeper. Can someone on this team create some offense? Until it starts happening more regularly, I’m remaining skeptical.

Gribbs - 1-0 Dynamo win
(Record 3-7)

The Dynamo are in a position to show that they can get a good result Wednesday evening. Colorado, like the Dynamo, have been inconsistent in recent weeks and with the Dynamo being at home and the Rapids giving up goals in bunches recently, I think they can get the full three points. Houston still struggles in front of goal so I don't believe it'll be a goal-fest by any measure, but they can get the win if the defense clamps down and at least one opportunity is capitalized on in the final third.

Billy 1-1 draw
(Record 4-9)

We just haven't seen enough chance creation and the creation we have seen has rarely tested the opposing keeper. The Dynamo struggle to find offensive rhythm, ranking near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories, and I don't think that changes over night. This could be a tough battle with a much improved Colorado Rapids squad that have scored nine in their last four matches.
