Dynamo try to do a double over Colorado: What to watch for
The Houston Dynamo return to Shell Energy Stadium for a midweek match as they attempt to do a double against the Colorado Rapids in 2024. Houston won in Colorado earlier this season, 1-0, thanks to a late Brad Smith winner. The Dynamo lost over the weekend in LA, 2-1 to the Galaxy. Colorado drew 3-3 with Minnesota United on Saturday in their last match.

The Juan in Charge
Dynamo head coach Ben Olsen will be suspended for tonight’s game because of yellow card accumulation. Assistant coach Juan Guerra will lead the team in the match against the Rapids. Guerra is comfortable as the head man, having most recently been the head coach of Phoenix Rising in the USL Championship where he won the league title last season. Olsen said in his pre-match press conference that he has full confidence in Guerra and his entire staff, saying they are the ones who coach the team already and he “is just a pretty face.” Guerra will now get his chance to lead a MLS team, something former assistant Brendan Burke did last season when he replaced Olsen on the bench and led the Dynamo to a win.
Sebas to the Rescue
The Dynamo have scored just four goals in their last seven matches, with two of those coming in the win against Sporting Kansas City. Latif Blessing scored the lone goal for Houston on Saturday after a giveaway from Galaxy goalkeeper John McCarthy. The team has struggled for goals all season, scoring more than two in just one game, the US Open Cup match against Detroit. Can their Designated Player striker save them? Olsen said yesterday that Sebas Ferreira is training and they will see how he responds to judge his availability for tonight. The Dynamo need goals, we say that every week, but can Sebas be that spark?
Rocky Mountain Madness
Colorado has gone through some transformation this offseason under new head coach Chris Armas. They currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference with a load of new players in the fray. As of late, the Rapids have been a bit of a roller coaster. Colorado has scored six goals in their last two games, while allowing eight. We mentioned above how the Dynamo haven’t score more than twice in any league game this season but, tonight could be a chance for them to break out. The Rapids are going to be an interesting team, whether that is the good or bad kind of interesting remains to be seen.
