Dynamo re-sign Griffin Dorsey
The Houston Dynamo have announced that the club has re-signed right back Griffin Dorsey to a new contract. Dorsey’s new deal runs through 2025 with a club option for 2026.
MLS Insider Tom Bogert first broke the story earlier this morning.
Dorsey had a breakout season in 2023 and his contract expired at the end of the season. Re-signing Dorsey was a priority for the Dynamo front office and getting a deal done early in the offseason will now allow Pat Onstad and team to begin working on other areas.
“Re-signing Griffin was one of our priorities this offseason. He was not only an impact player in our U.S. Open Cup championship and run to the Western Conference Final, but his team-first mentality, competitiveness and commitment to everyday improvement are exemplars for every young player in our club,” said Houston Dynamo general manager, Pat Onstad. “We could not be happier that Griffin and his wife have chosen to commit to the city of Houston, and we look forward to his continued growth in the coming seasons.”
Dorsey joined the Dynamo during the 2021 season after playing two years with Toronto FC. The 24-year-old has made 66 appearances for Houston in his career. Dorsey scored 3 goals and had 2 assists in league play and scored in the Dynamo’s Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Final win over Inter Miami.
"We're so excited to be in Houston, and it's an honor to be a part of this club. It's just an exciting time for myself and my family,” Dorsey said. “I've been here for close to three years now, and I've seen exponential growth. I believe that exponential growth is just going to continue. We are super excited for what's on the horizon."
Dorsey was one of two Dynamo players out of contract at the conclusion of the 2023 season, along with Corey Baird. General manager Pat Onstad said on Glenn Davis’ radio show that Baird is unlikely to return.
