The Dynamo fan Discord that uncovered a transfer target
Transfers drive so many discussions these days between fans. Fabrizio Romano and the many insiders in soccer have made transfers a big business. Every fan wants to know what their club is doing and who is the next big signing. Dynamo fans are no different.
The club officially announced the signing of Ibrahim Aliyu today. MLS insider Tom Bogert reported on Saturday morning that the deal was being finalized. But it was Thursday of last week that Dynamo fans in the Discord group called La Hinchada pinpointed Aliyu as the club’s new signing. Here’s how it all went down.
It started with the group wondering who might be the club’s new signing after general manager Pat Onstad joined Glenn Davis’ radio show and said he was in Europe working on deals before the transfer deadline closed. Someone in the chat was able to find out that Onstad was in Croatia and the investigations began, led mostly by Jake from Dynamo Faithful and Tony Rubio.
Jake went to Transfermarkt and found a list of young attackers in the Croatian league that could be a possibility. One name on there would turn out to be a possibility. The chat began to investigate the players on the list and their stats and who might fit the style of Ben Olsen and this Dynamo team.
As we do in this day and age, to find out more about a person, you check out their social media accounts. Ibrahim Aliyu is quite active on his Instagram and he and his agent had some follows that caught the attention of the Hinchada guys.
Aliyu had to be the guy. It made too much sense, and all the clues of stats and social media fit. Of course, this was all just fun for a group of fans, thirsty for some transfer news. That is until Bogert’s tweet on Saturday morning.
Yep, the Discord got it right. They sniffed it out with nothing more than a small clue that Onstad was in Croatia. Never underestimate what a group of fans and social media can do.
