2024 in review
Allysha Chapman returned to the Houston Dash in 2024 after giving birth to her first child earlier in the year. The Canadian international made her debut on September 8 and then got her first start of the season the following week. Even at 35 years old, Chapman showed she is still a very good defender in the NWSL and is a leader that the young players in Houston can look up to. Chapman didn’t miss a beat after over a year off, averaging 3 intercaptions and 3.5 clearances per 90 minutes.
Moment of the season
Chapman started and played the full 90 in Houston’s 2-0 win on the road against the San Diego Wave on October 13. She recorded an impressive 3 tackles, 9 clearances, and 6 interceptions in drawing praise from interim head coach Ricky Clarke and goalkeeper Jane Campbell after the match.
Looking forward
Chapman turns 36 in January and is now out of contract. If she decides to move to a new team, or retire, Chapman will forever be a fan favorite in Houston. As the team enters yet another rebuild, whoever the general manager is, will probably go young in the roster construction. If Chapman wants to stay for another year as a veteran mentor, it would make sense as players like Avery Patterson could benefit from her wealth of knowledge.
