Houston Dynamo player ratings at New England Revolution

This Saturday the Dynamo played an extremely disappointing game, losing 3-0 to the impressive New England Revolution. Let’s see how everyone performed.

Starters

Steve Clark-2

Another massive stinker from Houston’s goalkeeper. Steve could have done better on two of three goals and again struggled with distribution. Let’s not overreact too much, but it could be time to see what Andrew Tarbell can do if Clark keeps this up.

Griffin Dorsey-3

Dorsey had what was possibly the worst performance of his career. For the first 40 minutes Dorsey was actually playing incredibly well but once the mistake came on the first goal, he was getting beaten by Dylan Borrero and DeJuan Jones the rest of the game.

Ethan Bartlow-6

Bartlow did not too much wrong as his distribution improved a ton from last week. It was always going to be hard for him when he has to constantly defend cutbacks and cover for Dorsey.

Teenage Hadebe-6

Same as Bartlow, Teenage did not do too much wrong. The Dynamo did concede three goals, so even if it was mostly due to the fullbacks being poor, it’s hard to give him more than a 6.

Tate Schmitt-2

It took a while but Tate finally looked like the player that was advertised as an emergency backup left back. Tate struggled constantly defending Bobby Wood, Latif Blessing, and Brandon Bye while providing almost nothing productive going forward.

Artur-6

Similar to last week, Artur did not too much special, but also did not do too much wrong. He kept Carles Gil from having too much end product when he was near the top of the box. Artur did complete 91% of his passes so, a solid evening for the midfielder.

Hector Herrera-6

Herrera was not as involved as much as he was last week, but almost all of the positive plays came through Herrera. He did well to contest Noel Buck most of the game but struggled to have any sort of end product going forward. His set pieces were nowhere near as dangerous as last week either.

Coco Carrasquilla-3

Another incredibly rough night for who is supposed to be a key player for Houston. He is really trying to do way too much on the ball, and it is killing many attacks. Coco needs to stick to what he is good at, and we will see the incredible player he is. Hopefully Amine Bassi taking a lot of the creative load off him will see an improvement in Coco’s performance.

Corey Baird-2

What exactly did Corey Baird do? Corey barely touched the ball and when he did, nothing came of it. Another game with zero shots from someone who is supposed to be a scoring threat. Corey also failed to support Dorsey defensively.

Ivan Franco-4

Once again Franco was probably the most involved forward. You can see the potential in him, but the sharpness in the box is just not yet there. Franco was at least active and tried to make something happen. Franco also lost his man for Brandon Bye’s goal.

Thor Ulfarsson-2

Just like Baird what did Thor even do? Thor only had 19 touches and did nothing memorable with any of them. A weird inclusion in the lineup and he did not make the most of this opportunity. We expect better from Thor.

Subs

Sebastian Ferreira-3

Sebas came off the bench with 30 minutes to go and still had the same amount of touches as Thor had. Nothing special came from any of those touches as he only registered one shot, which missed the target. Another disappointing game for the key striker.

Amine Bassi-4

By the time Bassi came on the game was pretty much already over, unfortunately. This did seem like more of a cameo to just get him some minutes. You can see the signs of what Bassi can bring but he was not able to show it enough in his short time.

Nelson Quinones-4

Just like Bassi, Nelson came on when the game was mostly finished. He did look a bit sharper than last week, completing all of his passes, but unfortunately none of them were in any meaningful positions to create a goal.

Luis Caicedo-6

Caicedo looked very solid coming off the bench to play his former team. While the game was mostly finished, Caicedo was able to provide some stability and kept New England from doing further damage. Hopefully we can see more minutes from Luis moving forward.

Coach

Ben Olsen-4

Ben started the game with a shape and plan that was working. Defending in a 442 did a great job of shutting down the Revolution in the first half. Bruce Arena changed things up, having the fullbacks push much higher, and that created all sorts of problems that Olsen could not adjust too. Starting the game with Thor over Sebas was also an odd decision that did not pay off.
