MAFC enters Volt League
In the past, amid the great turmoil happening around the Houston Dynamo and their head coach carousel, the name of Matias Almeyda always appeared in the rumor mill of possible candidates. Why was that exactly? Well since 2017, Matias Almeyda has had an academy here in the Houston area. Almeyda, who currently coaches AEK Athens in the Greek Super League, was a very successful player and is now a very successful coach. As a player, Almeyda, won Copa Libertadores in 1996 with River Plate, Seria A with Lazio in 2000, and an Olympic silver medal with Argentina in 1996. As a coach, Matias has won multiple titles with River Plate, Banfield, Guadalajara and AEK Athens, the most important one being the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League with Chivas.
MAFC Academy is a non-profit organization focused on player development through professional soccer training. Their mission is to provide a safe and positive learning environment for all levels of youth soccer, based on their most valued principles of conduct: respect, honor, integrity, and teamwork.
This season, MAFC will have a team competing in Volt League. The academy has a ton of talent that is being dispersed all over the world, whether it be to play college soccer or professionally. Players like Jesus Belandria, Oswaldo Sanchez, and Saul Paramo are just a few of the players that should be on the radar of scouts. This is a brand-new team, and they are looking for local talent who are interested in participating this season. Reach out to Volt League and see how you can make that happen.
The Volt League calls the Matias Almeyda Training Center in north Houston home. The complex has full size lighted turf fields that are the best in town and provide a perfect backdrop to all the Volt League action. If you haven’t been out to the complex yet, go out and check it out at 4211 Clow Road.
MAFC will make their Volt League debut this Sunday against Ghosttown Saints FC. We’re looking forward to seeing what they bring to the pitch with their talented roster of players. Check them out on the live stream if you can’t make it out to the pitch.
